Hey Steemit Community!
I am about two weeks into educating myself on the crypto currency world from living under a rock. I heard about Bitcoin several years back, maybe 2013 or so when the price was around $11 and thought to myself, like much of the mainstream western world, that it was a fad. A digital money couldn't ever be a thing. It isn't gold, it isn't backed by anyone or anything, it won't catch on, it's used by criminals, and it will certainly die off. Boy, I should have done my research then and I'm smacking myself now.
Reality hit me in the face after I read an article about the falling price of Ethereum due to rumors about it's inventor being in an accident. "Wtf is Ethereum?" I said. Well, that lead me back down the rabbit hole into Bitcoin and then its price. $2600 is a far cry from the $11 it was previously. Why didn't it die off? How can it be worth this much? Where have I been!?!
I've been reading up like a maniac, gobbling up anything and everything I can about Bitcoin, altcoins, what they are and what they can do. I see this now as an opportunity to not only make some serious capital, but also to hedge your wealth against centralized banking forces. I'm getting some flak from family and friends who I tell about this new technology. They use the same kind of skepticism I employed when I was ignorant. Can this new economy fail? Sure, but so can every other existing financial construct. I will continue to invest and educate everyone around me on what could be and what I believe to be the future of money. Don't be surprised when anyone and everyone is using this new technology!
I encourage everyone to get educated, find some funds to invest, and see how this plays out. I couldn't be more excited.
