Bitcoin - Bitcoin Cash Hardfork Was it worth it??

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

My final thoughts on the bitcoin hard fork & bitcoin cash.

I rant about how great b!tconnect was during the fork, while "reputable" exchanges like Polo were acting shady. (Livecoin.net still hasn't given me my BCH!) Then I talk about Adam Guerbuez (@mikethemug). If you haven't checked out his YouTube Channel you should subscribe because he is an entertaining guy and a major player with burst coin. Check him out at Bitcoin Official https://www.youtube.com/user/ToughLife2007

One extra thought that didn't make it to the video:

All the "experts" were suggesting moving all bitcoin to local wallets and to export the private keys during the fork to be safe. This on the surface was sound advice, but in hindsight, if you had just left your BTC on Bittrex and even B!tconnect, it would have been safest, easiest method. People in chats and groups were left struggling trying to figure out which wallets to download and how to import their keys, effectively putting their BTC at risk from their own mistakes.

Thanks all for now.

Communication from Livecoin.net regarding BCH and BTC...

BTC AND BCH NEWS

Dear clients, your accounts will be credited with Bitcoin Cash (BCH) tomorrow, August 4. Trading will be available tomorrow. Trading pairs: BCH/BTC, BCH/ETH, BCH/USD, BCH/RUR, BCH/ZBC.
We're planning to open deposits/withdrawals of original BTC by next Monday, August 7. Deposit/withdrawal of BCH will be opened till August 14 supposedly. Please note that our main goal is the security of your funds, that is why we do some things only when we are sure in our actions.

Hey there, keep in mind that any of dozens of potential (and realistic) problem scenarios thankfully didn't materialize.

Considering we were on relatively uncharted territory through the fork, and key players with understandable reluctance to commit to specific courses of action, lest they reduce their own options to adapt to changes circumstances, my own impression is that the fork has (so far) gone off surprisingly well.

Adding to this perception is the dearth of horror stories about lost coins, double spend & replay attacks, etc.

My quick 2 cents - thanks for opening the topic :)

Thanks for your thoughful reply. I just subscribed to you. I don't disagree. But If I would have rolled out an update like this leaving users confused disabled I wouldn't have a job anymore. But this is crypto and I just look at it as a reminder that this is still new and very risky technology. Anything can happen at any time. peace
