Last week, a Reddit user named Windows7733 made a post that said "I got my first 0.5 NANO - Venezuelan User". These 0.5 NANOs were received as a donation to help the user buy food and pay for other basic services.
Although the US $ 2.71 of NANO value does not seem to be much, due to the hyperinflationary nature of the broken Venezuelan economy and its devalued currency, this type of donations could be enough to supply a pantry for a month.
"0.5 NANO is almost a month of my salary, it's more than I did in the last month," said Windows7733 on Reddit, adding that he would have gotten a food vendor who would accept cryptocurrency as a payment method. Also, by receiving more and more donations, the user managed to buy 102 kilos of meat, rice, sugar, grains and fruits.
"Thank you very much, I can not express in words how I feel today. What the Reddit community is doing for my family, my neighbors and all those who are going through a tough situation is incredible, "he added.
While charities and alleged charitable collections have been involved in numerous fraudulent incidents throughout history, blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies have inherent qualities that make them ideal platforms for this type of initiatives, mainly avoiding intermediaries without having to pay commissions and encouraging users to contribute directly to the people affected.
It is important to note that this initiative comes amidst the turbulent implementation of the "Petro" cryptocurrency in the Venezuelan economy, and that it would be questioned by all the competent bodies, apparently a means of foreclosure that would allow officials of the State sanctioned by the USA to move their capital obtained through alleged fraudulent activities.
