The U.S. securities and exchange Commission (SEC) stated that if a cryptocurrency exchange traded tokens falling within the definition of securities, those platforms should be registered with the SEC as national stock exchanges, alternative trading systems, or brokers under Federal law.
Representatives of the Commission note that many cryptocurrency platforms only serve themselves as registered entities, but in fact they are not, which means that there is no legal protection for investors. Although these platforms have developed security standards, the SEC did not test them and did not approve of trading protocols.
"Some of these platforms provide mechanisms for trading assets that fall under the definition of 'securities' under the Federal securities act. If the platform offers trading in digital assets that are securities and acts as an exchange under the Federal securities act, such a platform must be registered with the SEC as a stock exchange or be exempted from registration," the Commission said in a statement.
At the same time, the network is actively spreading rumors about the hacking of the fourth largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Reddit users report that some bitcoin assets have been transferred to Ethereum and removed from the site. Some have reported the inability to withdraw funds, while others deny it and claim that everything is operating normally.
The official statement of Finance says that the exchange is aware that users who use API keys to synchronize with trading bots have become the main victims of unauthorized trading operations. At the same time, it is claimed that the exchange itself is not hacked.
The network also discusses the possibility of hacking into a popular trading bot that could sell bitcoin and some altcoins in favor of other assets.
Against the background of these two news, the weighted average bitcoin rate fell by almost $1000 in just an hour, falling on a number of exchanges below $9500.
CEO Behance Chanpen Jao said that the problem is localized and all unauthorized transactions will be cancelled.
