Burung dara atau biasa juga disebut burung merpati, sangat banyak jenis-jenisnya. Jenis yang biasa dipelihara yaitu merpati kampung. Merpati jenis ini tidak mahal harganya.
Untuk jenis burung merpati hias, harganya sudah bernilai dipasaran. Karena merpati jenis ini mempunyai keindahan dari segi bentuk terutama dari bulu-bulunya. Untuk bagi pemula, memelihara merpati tidaklah sulit karena merpati ini akan pulang jika dilepas tapi dengan syarat dia harus mengetahui dulu daerah tempat tinggalnya agar tidak kesasar waktu pulang.
Makanan merpati pun tidak begitu repot untuk kita cari karena merpati ini memakanan padi, jagung, nasi ataupun bagi yang ingin mempercepat proses perkembangbiakannya, kita dapat memberi makanan toko seperti pur agar cepat bertelur.
