Chasing Racing Emus - Highlight of my Bush Adventure

For our preschool program, we are looking into having "bush kindy" at least three times each term. We asked one family if we could do our Bush kindy on their property. It is a massive land for sheep farming but it looks like 80% of the property is just bushland. Australian wildlife is definitely present especially at dawn or dusk, or they're just always visible because the water tank for the farm animals are turned on for them. Kangaroos and emus love to take their fair share, of course.

When our Centre Director and I took a couple of hours trip to visit their property, the lovely couple took us out to this part of their land which will be a perfect place for the children to enjoy the scenery and to do some bushwalking, not to mention that they might get unexpected visits from the animals that frequent the property. I just hope there won't be any brown snake. FYI, the most poisonous snake is found in Australia. We definitely don't want snakes to appear out of nowhere whilst we're there.

Anyway, as we were driving around the property, we were blessed to be given the chance to see some kangaroos and some emus, which was the highlight of my adventure. Those emus just continued to run straight ahead not even wanting to go to their right, since there was a fence on the left side. Those birds are not really bright but they're so fun to watch.

I love australia very much !!!

What's not to love? Australia is a great country! Thanks for dropping by @joya360.

This is so cool @evlachsblog! Your students are going to have a blast, as long as the snakes stay away. Yikes!

We have a neighbor who has an animal farm, and for a long time, he had an emu named gizmo. He was so cool and would dance for us. I wish we could have seen him in the wild but maybe some day we'll see some of his relatives.

Thank you for sharing your adventure!

We are actually excited to take our little ones to the bush. It will be a great opportunity for them to learn more about Australian wildlife, safety measures, responsibility, and caring for animals and environment. The experience will also help build on their social and emotional skills as they enjoy each others company in the wild. Oh yes! It will be a blast!

I didn't know that you have emus in America. 😀 or was Gizmo imported from Australia?

Gizmo must have been imported. We don't have them running around wild here in New England. The biggest bird we have is a bald eagle which is really cool to see too. There are some nesting pairs fairly close to our house so we see them fly by a few times a year usually.

The neighbor also had some other exotic animals like red deer and peacocks. and by exotic I mean not native to our region. He's pretty much dedicated to his animals and it feels almost more like an animal rescue than an animal farm.

I love all kinds of birds! I can just imagine myself having different types of birds if I have a farm. I will have each bird in pairs, male and female.

I will have meerkats, too, if I am allowed.

You're blessed to see eagles a few times a year. I could only get to see them at the zoo. My husband have seen owls and eagles a lot of times while driving on the highway, and he'd always tell me but it's too late, I didn't even catch a glimpse.

Well, this brown snake that you speak of, what is the species? That looks cool, kind of how they depict Africa in a way in movies...or wait The Rescuers from Down Under is probably more like it!

The Eastern brown snake. It is not cool when I want to enjoy bushwalking or camping because I am scared there might be snakes somewhere. But I guess if you love snakes, you don't worry about them.
