Progressive Victory in Victoria

in #australia6 years ago

Labor took out a huge victory over the Liberals in Victoria, the party is ahead 28 seats with 10 still unknown, with 42% of the overall vote. Here's a graphic about whats going on.

Victoria has always been a progressive/left state, only deviating from Labor for one term between 1988 to 2002. Despite this the Liberal government decided to fear monger about black gang crime and higher taxes, whilst completely ignoring real issues like infrastructure and climate change. Daniel Andrews however hammered away at every chance about infrastructure plans, funding for renewable energies and his history of getting his promises done. It goes to show you that Victorians are not swayed by fear and division, they want to see what the government will do for them and they are smart enough to see through a fake politician who is spewing out right wing talking points.

So it looks like Victorians will have Daniel Andrews for another 4 years which means:

  • $200 million will also be used for 1,000 new public housing properties,
  • huge upgrades for state hospitals and schools,
  • billions of road and rail infrastructure all over Victoria,
  • $1 billion for renewable energy funding

In my view these policies will be great for jobs and therefore impacts the Victorian economy as a whole... More so than jailing young black offenders for life will anyway (unless you're in the private prison industry)
