How to Find Steem Users Near You (with AskSteem)

in #asksteem7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone,
I was recently asked if AskSteem could be used to find other steem users near you geographically such as in the same city, state, or country for the purposes of finding people to meet up with. So in this post, I'd like to outline the simple way to do just that.

<h1>How To <p dir="auto">We're going to use the following query template for our search:<br /> <code>profile.location:"Your Location Name"<br /> All you need to do is replace the "Your Location Name" text with the name of your city, state, or country. For example, I'm in the United States so I could try:<br /> <a href="https://www.asksteem.com/search?q=profile.location:%22United+States%22" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" title="This link will take you away from hive.blog" class="external_link"><code>profile.location:"United States"<br /> to find all of the users who live in the United States.<br /> <img src="https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmchq8oX3ehfg3Jc9ejNcZDLSgpFYLHfpfW8XTAHrsBL6U/image.png" srcset="https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmchq8oX3ehfg3Jc9ejNcZDLSgpFYLHfpfW8XTAHrsBL6U/image.png 1x, https://images.hive.blog/1536x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmchq8oX3ehfg3Jc9ejNcZDLSgpFYLHfpfW8XTAHrsBL6U/image.png 2x" /><br /> But let's say I wanted to narrow that down even more to my city. I happen to be living in Orlando so I'll search for users who live there.<br /> <a href="https://www.asksteem.com/search?q=profile.location:%22Orlando%22" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" title="This link will take you away from hive.blog" class="external_link"><code>profile.location:"Orlando"<br /> <img src="https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmSqUjJdpSiyZ6xqRXbwtA92yNuozJr5LQd5P3sVVfACWV/image.png" srcset="https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmSqUjJdpSiyZ6xqRXbwtA92yNuozJr5LQd5P3sVVfACWV/image.png 1x, https://images.hive.blog/1536x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmSqUjJdpSiyZ6xqRXbwtA92yNuozJr5LQd5P3sVVfACWV/image.png 2x" /><br /> As you can see there are about 64 steem users who say they are living in Orlando. <p dir="auto">If you live in a smaller city you may not be able to find others so try using more general terms like your country. <h1>Restrictions <p dir="auto">This method is not perfect because it relies on searching for the text that the user has manually entered. Right now this is the best that can be done because steemit does not save location data in a proper standardized format. <p dir="auto">Thanks for reading this guide and Search On!

Great. Thanks for sharing. I vote for you and begin to follow you. And Resteemed...

Nice, very useful

wow nice post I like it, I will support you, upvoted

is there a magic combo to pull all the upvotes I've thrown around in the last 2 weeks ?

Not currently maybe in the future! :D

It would make me very happy! It would make me super super happy if it also could pull a list of all my received rewards and the related posts ... yes I know ... but it's not one list and it doesn't export easy.

And while you're at it ... I'd really enjoy totals ... and ... a list that has these headers: date/time curated; % curated; weight curated; content type (post or comment); age of content at curation; date/time rewarded; amount rewarded; post link

I know. My husband agrees. I always ask for the easy projects. ... that snowball. oh no! That's not the snowball. I could make it more complex ... self-upvote y/n; total votes for content; ... I'm tired. There was something more. ... I bet others could add to the table header list.

:) Enjoy have fun
