It's been a while since I last wrote about my individual art projects...and I've been developing a lot over the last 12 months, especially with my cryptoart. Today, I will briefly touch on some of my themes on different platforms. Over the coming months I will give each one it's own blog and, in more detail, describe what lies behind each specific journey.
In a galaxy far, far away...
They say a week in crypto is like a year in real life. Well, it seems like an eon ago that I decided to try this new thing called cryptoart. My first mint was back in February of 2019 on SuperRare (almost 2 years ago)! I'll start with that.
SuperRare…
I have two main collections on SuperRare - My 'Experimentals' and my 'Blue/green' series...
My first mint...my genesis piece if you will, was 'Where the sea meets the sky'. I had been experimenting with landscapes for a while, with no sales success. I decided to start putting them up on this new 'cryptoart thing' as a last attempt to find an audience for these beloved explorations. I have slowly been adding to this collection ever since (my newest 'experimentals' piece being 'Moonlit congress', minted last month).

The 'blue/green' landscapes came soon after. With both collections I have been exploring the space between traditional mediums and digital processes (often reworking the piece many times) but purposefully keeping the 'experimentals' work more open whilst using the 'blue/green' series to find meaning in my need for peace and stillness, which I almost always find in nature. Both collections are still growing.

2020 and all that...
My first NFT sale on SuperRare came at the end of 2019. I had 5 pieces up by this stage and I had decided to develop more work for the platform for 2020. And then 2020 happened and the bottom fell out of my 'normal' art practice (pet portraits). By April I was hardly earning anything and started devising plans to rescue my career - this included more nfts and new platforms...
Rarible
I mostly use Rarible for limited editions (lower price points for collectors who may not be able to stretch to my SuperRare 1/1 prices). I was keen to keep the work just as high quality but pursue other avenues with this work. I have 3 currently ongoing series: 'Cloud study', 'Abstract winged forms' and 'Heart'.
I work under a skylight every day and am obsessed with watching the sun set each evening after a day at the screens. Older followers of my blogs here will remember that I have been photographing the ever-changing skies from my window for years. I wanted finally to do something with this activity and to explore my own fascination with this topic...and the 'cloud studies' were born.
'Cloud studies' series, 2020
The 'abstract winged form' series were drawn on scraps of paper nearly 2 decades ago, when I was a sculptor working in bronze. Nothing ever came from my sketches back then as I had a change in career paths at around the same time. But I've always wanted to bring them to life in some way.

The 'heart' series is a little challenge for myself. I have been with my wife for almost 25 years now and for almost every birthday, christmas or anniversary, I have hand-made a little heart card for her. I wanted to stretch this out into my digital work to see where I could push this universal motif whilst still keeping it recognisable and original.

That is enough for now because I wanted to keep these introductions short. In future, I will delve deeper into each collection.
In 'Part 2', I will focus on my NFT showroom, BAE and Known Origin collections, which all explore other avenues of my art journey but hopefully you've found this brief introduction interesting so far!
Each of the series I have mentioned above are still growing, each with several artworks either in production or planned for 2021 and beyond. I hope you will join me for this exciting journey ahead!
