My favourite is graphite pencil, but I've recently been adventuring with watercolour too. I'd love to see how you get on with it. I found it great fun to experiment with some "galaxy" paintings... just to get a feel for the watercolours. They're a lot of fun and you get a quick idea of how the paints move and interact!
