Disagree. I grew up with dogs more than cats at home. Now I'm an adult; cats are better than dogs. Cats are quite independent, but they are very affectionate as much as dogs. We have a cat that pretty much like a dog behaviour in everything she does whether you can argue with me or not. If you travel for a week or two you can leave your cat inside the house without any problem, provided you leave the food/water/littering box for it.
