Working Holiday #89 - Bungee Jumping!!

AJ Hackett Cairns

Chris and me did it, what first was a dream for so many years, finally became reality. I remember like it was yesterday. A very warm and sunny day. We woke up late cause it was Sunday, our day off work and we always used to sleep in after partying on Saturdays. Without a plan we headed down to the esplanade, me on my longboard and Chris just by walk. See, the streets along Cairns’ esplanade are full of travel agencies and all of them are offering pretty much the same kind of activities. On our way we made a stop at one specific shop, but we weren't fancying to buy anything, only to say hello to our friend Lisa. Surprisingly she made us an very good offer to do bungee and she was able to book us in for the same afternoon! Well, that came really unexpected so we took the offer. We woke up without a plan, a bit marked by a hangover and were about to jump from a tower in just a few hours! I’m not going to say that I liked that feeling.

If you’d like to do a bungee jump in Australia, then your journey will lead you to Cairns, cause it’s the only place across  the whole country where you can do it! The Park is located 20 minutes by car north and kind of hidden in the forest. The location is amazing and the club very nice too. There is a bar, which you can visit always, even if you're not jumping and underneath the tower is a little billabong. Good vibes and that adrenaline kick could make me go back again. Sooo we got picked up by a shuttle bus, it was only the two of us and the driver. The closer we came I started to regret my decision! As we arrived, a very kind team welcomed us there and wanted us to fill out some forms, about our health. They put us on a scale to figure out how much we weight, wrote the number on the back of our hands and we were ready to go. We left all our belongings in a safe and walked up the stairs. These stairs are winding around the tower from the bottom, all the way up to the platform. The tower is 50m/164ft high and you can choose wether you touch the water at the ground! It doesn't seem to be a lot, but it looks way higher from up there. The moment we payed for the jump our excitement was limited, that changed on the platform. Finally the question came up who is jumping first and we decided it in a very mature way: Rock, Paper, Scissor! Well, to cut a long story short, i lost and hated Chris. The crew up there tied up my legs and I jumped. The feeling is amazing and I recommend it to everyone to try it at least once! But honestly, I’m not keen to jump again…
