Mumbai has many iconic structures and of those there are these two which are always there on every traveler's list. It's just not popular with the tourist but the locals favorite also. Gateway of India is one of them and right opposite to it is the famous Taj Hotel. The one where the 26/11 terrorist incident took place. Along with my friend I went for the evening stroll there. Over the weekend the place is extremely packed so it's best to go on a weekday evening if one is looking to get some clear pictures of the place.
Gateway of India is on the water front area of the Apollo Bunder area. It was built in the early 20th century. In those days it served as an entry point to the elite Brits at that time ruled India. During the monsoon time part area which is touching the sea gets sealed off as it is open and there is high probability of accidents to happen. Also, the sailing stops in the monsoon months. During this time the place looks very empty, but in the other season, due to the sailing this place is overcrowded. I prefer to come here very late in the evening because by then the sailing stops and it gets quiet and empty.

Sometimes we travel the world and click pictures and miss out on our own city landmarks. A memory to keep. As children we visited this place very regularly as I enjoyed the boat rides. Even when I was dating my hubby in those days, we would come here often for our evening leisure times. In the last few years, especially after the Taj attack there is a lot of cordoning being done in and around this area, which has made the place lost its charm, but then what to do, security is also important.
This statue of Shivaji Maharaj (King) stands opposite the Gateway structure in a small enclosed park. He was the warrior of the Maharashtra state in the 1600s. The locals have very high regards for him.
On the other side of Gateway of India is the most famous Taj Hotel. You would see how grand this place is. In the 26/11 attack the dome that you can see was completely in flames and it has been newly done up again. The attack was one of the deadliest one that we have witnessed. It went on for 4 days and many lost their lives. But the place has come up once again in full glory.

This place is definitely a beauty and a dream for many to stay here once.
As I always say Mumbai is a very glamorous see, lots to see and do in this place. The city that never sleeps.
