Splinterlands: Inaugural Land Card Edition!
📘 Introduction

Splinterlands is excited to announce the inaugural Land Card Edition, a major expansion to Land gameplay that introduces new mechanics, new card types, and new resource sinks for the ecosystem. This proof-of-concept edition is designed to test player interest, balance, and economic impact before larger Land Card sets are released in the future.
This edition introduces:
- Cards crafted directly from Land resources
- Cards requiring Cinder, a new resource created by burning cards
- Cards designed exclusively for Land usage
- New Land-only abilities affecting production, efficiency, and worker management
- A new treasure-discovery mechanic: Labor’s Luck
Each rarity—Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary—has exactly one card in this initial edition.
📊 Mint Quantities
| Rarity | Total CC |
|---|---|
| Common | 100,000 |
| Rare | 18,000 |
| Epic | 6,000 |
| Legendary | 1,000 |
Crafting lasts up to 3 months, or until all copies are minted.

🧮 Allocation Rights
A random snapshot was taken on November 18th. It captured:
- Total Base PP staked on Land
- Each player’s proportional share
Based on this, players received Allocation Rights for each rarity.
- Allocation Rights are soulbound
- Valid for the first 3 days only
- Limit how many cards of each rarity can be crafted during the 3 day protected period
🏃 After 3 days, crafting becomes open to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis!
🔥 Cinder
Cinder is a new, non-transferable resource created by burning unlocked cards with DEC burn value.
Cinder = 1.5 × CP of the burned card
- Required for crafting all 4 Land Cards
- Soulbound cards and cards burnable only for Glint/Merits do not produce Cinder
Cinder introduces a long-term deflationary mechanic for cards.
🧩 Land Card Abilities
Bountiful Grain / Wood / Stone / Iron / Aura
Provides a production bonus for worksites producing that resource.
Toil and Kin
Provides a production bonus if one of your workers has the matching Bloodline.
Dark Discount
Reduces the amount of DEC required to stake for the plot to reach 100% efficiency.
Energized
Acts as a replacement for a Power Core.
Rationing
Reduces the amount of grain consumed on plot harvest.
Labor’s Luck
Chance of discovering a GF, GFA, BF, or BFA Land Card during plot harvest.
This is the only way to obtain these foil variants aside from market purchases.
Only Regular Foil cards are craftable.
Same Abilities Don’t Stack
Example 1:
If you have Rationing -10% and Rationing -25%, only the stronger effect (-25%) applies.
Example 2:
If you have Bountiful Grain +3% and +15%, only +15% applies.
Example 3:
If Toil and Kin (Elf) +10% is present and you have multiple Elf workers, you receive a single +10% bonus.
Example 4:
Toil and Kin (Elf) +10% and Bountiful Grain +10% are different abilities and stack for a +20% total (if producing grain).
Example 5:
Toil and Kin (Elf) +10% and Toil and Kin (Mundane Beast) +5% stack because they target different bloodlines (and thus are considered different abilities), giving a +15% total.
🍀 Labor’s Luck — More Detail
Labor’s Luck will work like a totem fragment roll, similar to how it’s described in the Land whitepaper:
https://splinterlands.gitbook.io/the-secret-of-praetoria/resource-production/totem-fragments
The bonus for Castles and Keeps does not apply.
The percent chance is not 0.0007% per 1,000 base PP per hour.
The exact percentage will be set one week after the feature goes live - upon the first cards being crafted.
This percentage will vary depending on the production power and the number cards with the Labor’s Luck ability.
The team will reset the percentage on an estimated monthly basis.
The intention is that the Labor’s Luck bucket lasts for roughly one year, although this depends on randomness and overall Land production.
🍀 Labor's Luck Bucket
| Foil Type | Common | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold Foil (GF) | 380 | 220 | 100 | 40 |
| Black Foil (BF) | 10 | 7 | 5 | 3 |
| Gold Foil Arcane | 10 | 7 | 5 | 3 |
| Black Foil Arcane | 7 | 5 | 3 | 1 |
| Total | 407 | 239 | 113 | 47 |
Total hidden treasures: 806 premium foil cards.
🧩 Odds and Ends
Golden Overcap Rule
Land cards do not contribute PP beyond the 100k base PP cap. However, their abilities remain active even when the PP cap is reached.
This gives capped plots meaningful use for their remaining worker slots. For example, if a plot already has a 100k PP Alpha GFL card, a Land Card placed in another slot will not add PP but will add its abilities.
🛠️ Land Card Usage
Land Cards:
- Cannot be used in Ranked, Brawls, or Tournaments
- Do not have combat stats
- Function exclusively as Land workers and require a worker slot
*They are NOT able to be used in the Conflicts.

🏁 Conclusion
The Inaugural Land Card Edition introduces new Land-specific gameplay, new resource sinks, a deflationary burn mechanic through Cinder, new abilities, and a treasure-based foil discovery system. This edition forms the foundation for future Land Card expansions and deeper Land strategy across the Splinterlands ecosystem.

Ok, 3 days starting when? That would be helpful to know. Thanks
We will be talking about it on the Town Hall tonight. Its in the final stages, and we will hope to have it in early Dec (assuming testing goes well)
Yeah the big question now is: when does this start?
Soon :) ... hoping for early December if all goes well
So if you where to add a maxed legendary land card to the plot below, does that double Aura output from 292hr to 584hr? asking for a friend:)
edit:
@davemccoy though id ping you as still waiting on an answer to this, (not sure who wrote post) when time thanks
Hey @michealb you would add him in Worker #3... But you get a boost to your base PP, not to your Total PP. It would function like another Legendary Totem.
ahh ok thankyou :)
I'm new and I don't really understand what it's all about. You either need to explain it in more detail and simply, or I'll get completely lost. It's very complex, but I also know that everything is complex at the beginning; I'll have to learn little by little.
Si no tienes tierras no afecta en nada al juego. Si tienes tierras pregunta lo que no entiendas, te explico lo que haga falta.
I'm writing a post with my questions and participating in the Splinterland initiative. If I have any more questions, feel free to ask.
if you could tag me in your post, then I will be happy to help you with your questions @suisver
Thanks, friend, I'll do it.
I am ready! I ramped up my lands to get some cards. Also bought cheap cards off the market for cinder. Love Splinterlands, you all have built something special and one day will be recognized as such and it will flourish.
Hi @davemccoy
Quick question on this, the announcement mentions:
"A random snapshot was taken on November 18th. It captured: Total Base PP staked on Land. Each player’s proportional share.
Based on this, players received Allocation Rights for each rarity."
Will each player be notified of what their allocation rights will be, or is this something they will have to figure out for themselves?
Hey @kaljerico it is in your Inventory page ingame and you can also see it in the other assets on peakmonsters.
Here's your snapshot:
Nice one Dave, thanks 👍
You're welcome Kaljerico! And don't forget we start crafting tomorrow :)
Do the cards require DEC as well as resources to craft? Or is that just an estimation of their dollar value in resources?
They require a) resources and b) cinder (which comes only via burned cards).
The Cinder is equivalent to 1.5x the DEC burn value, so you could say that it requires DEC, but since the cards have to be burned to do this, then its indirect DEC needed vs. direct DEC needed.
Wow... so much complexity. I have no clue what to do with any of this information! I'm still up to my ears in land and feel like I'm flying blind.
Still wild to me that I now make more SPS from land than I do from battle. Actually kind of sad, but that is a story for a different comment.
Hey Duce, if you want to DM me on Discord then I'd be happy to try to help get you up to speed on it.
Cryptomancer did a great job explaining it in the town hall. The whole land thing just feels like it is pulling value and attention from battling and I see our battle numbers dwindling as more people move their cards to land for increased ROI. We are having trouble firing tournaments because the cards needed for battle are not available; they are tied up on land because they offer more returns to the owners on land than in tournaments/battle.
Its important that we develop the tools we need to manage the game, and these land cards are an important way to do this. I realize that people are excited about it, and that's terrific. But I also want to assure you that we aren't neglecting the gamer aspect of our ecosystem either.
We just came out with a completely new way to give out reward cards, introduced a new mechanic to incentivize both higher level play and SPS ownership, installed a whole FTP mode to attract and retain new people, and also have plans for a guild overhaul along with a new Survival Mode upgrade. I'm definitely focused on getting more players, and the numbers have been going up over time (albeit at a slower pace than I would like).
We also have a few surprises for some new modes that will be achievable once we release a few more dynamics, and on top of that, our core ranked play mechanics continue to improve in terms of depth and variability.
All aspects are the game are important and feed on each other, and over time you will see that all methods of play will not only be supported, but also enhanced by this integrated ecosystem.
The TLDR is that if people put their cards on land then they will miss out on other opportunities, and vice versa. There should be many ways to play, collect, and invest; and I fully support all of them.
This is a fantastic summary of the direction SPL has been moving in. It's a philosophical shift as well as game development, and these shifts need to take root before they grow; which takes time. We are witnessing a very real and serious transformation, the evolution of Splinterlands into a powerful platform that brings together gaming, blockchain, de-fi, e-sports, resource management, social media, content creation, and countless other elements of the emerging digital landscape.
It takes a band 10-20 years of busting their ass before becoming an 'overnight success'. SPL is on that very same trajectory.
Thank you Jimmy! I agree and super thrilled you see it! :)
I think this will add some much needed value to the overprinted CL set
Awesome post! So when does it launch?
We hope to have it in early Dec (assuming testing goes well)
okay this is going to shake things up a bit! I like it
Hi! Just a couple of questions to clarify.
Will creating a legendary card cost both iron and aura? or just one or the other as well as cinder?
And just to know I'm doing my calculations correctly;
If I want a level 4 Common Water card.
This will cost me 20k Grain x 30 = 600,000 Grain total.
And then for Cinder 30 x 375 = 11,250
11,250 ÷ 1.5 = 7500 CP Total that I would need to burn to get The cinder I need for the level 4 Common Water card?
Sorry if my math is wrong. Looking forward for the release! :)
@davemccoy :)
They will need both. Looking at the chart above for the Legendary, to craft 1 copy of the card you need 3 things:
a) 50k Aura
b) 40k Iron
c) 37,500 Cinder
And on the common card, if you want a level 4, then you need 30 copies and your math is correct on both!
If you have any more questions, then let me know @hobotortoise and thrilled you are looking forward to the release!
Yikes the Legendary is super out of budget for me then hahaha. But thanks for the explanation!
And brilliant. Would love the level 5 water card but again that brings me out of budget haha.
Thanks again!
well the good thing is you can start at the level you are comfortable with, and then add to it over time. I plan on having a few level 3 and working to level 5 common cards myself. And thank you @hobotortoise :)
I want knowed more, i want make a video talking about it, but i think so i dont understand correct
If you have any questions, feel free to message me on Discord: davemccoy
I will be happy to answer them!
Need to mull over this and decide how many cards I'm going for
Will the Land Cards be crafted in the Artisan Quarter?
Yes, there will be a new tab there for players to craft them
Is Cinder getting added to the trade hub pools?
I assume not.
