Living by the sea. That was our life-long dream for both me and my wife. We both grew up on the Eastern side of Johannesburg.
In 2003, it felt like our dream was becoming a reality. Although we had to settle a little inland (we were about 40 KM away from the ocean), at least we were in the coastal area.
We have been able to move a little closer lately, but we would still like to live in a house where you can at least see the ocean when you look out the window. We are currently about 20 KM from the ocean.
For today, I decided that maybe it's time to show that even though you might think I'm obsessed with the ocean, there are actually other scenes (at the ocean) too...lol.
These photos weren't all taken on the same day though. But they were taken on those days when I took the photos that have been published in my posts here on Hive.
We'll start down south, and work our way up north.
You'll remember I've published some photos of the little "nature park" around the pond in the nursery Teagarden down in Illovo Beach.
The first two photos are something that doesn't happen often. I got into the passenger seat to take some photos and let my wife do the driving. I love driving, and that's normally my place, in the driver's seat...lol.
But the first photo is after we left the Illovo Beach Nursery Teagarden. This photo has been taken just before entering Winkle Spruit. We would enter Winkle Spruit just after the bend you see in this photo.
For today's photos, in Winkle Spruit, we won't carry on straight towards the beach. We'll take a left turn at the traffic light and head up towards Warner Beach.
In the next photo, we are driving through the CBD of Warner Beach. As you can see, it is really a small little Coastal area and actually falls under the Amanzimtoti area. On the left are some small shops, on the right is the ocean, with some holiday accommodation that becomes visible ahead.
On the beach in Warner Beach, there is a nice little kiosk where you can sit down to have some snacks and something to drink.
Looking back towards Warner Beach, these holiday apartments are standing tall. You can still see the little kiosk in the foreground.
Standing on the same beach, but looking north, I took the next photo where you can see apartment buildings in Duneside. Some of these apartments have full-time residents, and some are used for holiday accommodation. Many people would buy an apartment for personal use during holiday seasons and then rent it out for holiday accommodation for those who prefer to come down here out of season.
Also standing on the same beach, Warner Beach, I took this photo. In this photo, you can see how you can stand on Warner Beach and also see the buildings in Duneside all the way to Amanzimtoti. (I was standing on some rocks. I wasn't in the water with my camera...lol).
Still on Warner Beach, looking back as I left the beach, is where I took these next photos.
And the same spot, just a different angle.
The next photo is looking back towards the main beach. The kiosk is just a couple of meters to the left, outside of this photo.
Then we pass Durban and go north to Umhlanga rocks where I took this photo of the Lighthouse on Umhlanga Rocks Beach.
And that's it for today.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I do appreciate it.
Hi there! hehehe
so you're getting closer and closer to that beach view??? hehehe I used to have a view of teh ocean but it was from 5000 feet in the air ! hahahahaha on top of a mountain
much too far away from the ocean for @biggerjoe to be happy hahahahahaha
I know the desire to have those views though - they're so calming, so peaceful - they bring such balance into life - don't they???
hmmm i just took a deep breath just thinking about it hahahahahahahaha
and i love the lighthouse pic! hehehehe
It must have been a beautiful view though... But yes, I would tend to agree with @biggerjoe there, it's too far...
But yes, I agree. It is calming and peaceful.
It's actually funny...when we first move down here to the coastal area, many of the local people told us "just give it some time and you won't even notice the ocean or be bothered about it anymore".
Well, quite to the contrary, we just love it more and more every single day!
I just hope that when you took that deep breath, thinking about it, you could actually smell the ocean too...LOL!
I'm glad you liked the lighthouse, thank you!
Oh...and just as a matter of interest...That piece of land you see stretching out into the ocean way back in the background behind the lighthouse...is known as the Bluff and it's actually the entrance where the ships enter into Durban harbor.
I am the same!!!!
when we first moved to the first mountain (hmmm in 2008) we saw a deer on the first day hahaha
and one of my kids was like - i wonder how long it will take until we just think seeing a deer outside our door is common??
to me - even now- when i see one, i'm like oh look!!! deer! hahahahahahah i just love it!
and taht one picture totally did look like you were standing neck deep in water hahahaha
i was glad that you said you were on the rocks LOL
That was the illusion I was hoping to create...lol! So it worked...lol!
it DID hahahahahahaa
