A group of Butterfly Experts claims that there are about 18,000 species of butterflies and about 160,000 species of moths worldwide. If you search the internet for information about butterflies, you will come across very different information because none of the "experts" know the exact number of butterflies and moths, each of their claims is based only on assumptions! In any case, whether the number 18K or 12K is irrelevant, there is a lot of butterflies in this world!
That famous 18K figure makes me very frustrated! Why? Because in my whole life, I managed to see only about 50 species, almost nothing if I compare it with the previously mentioned figure of 18K!
A few years ago, when I found out about the so-called "Butterfly Gardens" around the world, I immediately started researching where the nearest "Butterfly Garden" is located. The answer was: Budapest, Hungary. As part of the Budapest Zoo, there is also the Butterfly Garden, which is open to visitors only during the summer from June to September, where you can see about 150 species of butterflies from all over the world, a paradise for butterfly lovers!
Because of the Corona pandemics, the last two years have been lost for me in terms of going to Budapest and visiting the Butterfly Garden, maybe next year ?!
In the meantime, I hang out with local species of butterflies, whenever I have the opportunity I try to touch them gently and many times I succeed. This year I managed to get a butterfly called Painted Lady to climb on my finger. Painted Lady is not a very friendly species of butterfly and usually flies away when approached too close. In the photos you can see several types of butterflies on my fingers that I photographed for the last 2-3 months.
