DISCLAIMER: Take the following with a grain of salt as we are dealing with rumors, gossip coming from anon Twitter employees.
Apparently Elon Musk had a fit a few days ago when he noticed that he was not getting his desired level of impressions on his tweets. He brought in a engineer to check if his tweets were "artificially restricted." His engineer found no anomalies so Elon abruptly fired him.
Rule 1 in a dictatorship:
Always tell the dictator what he wants to hear.
A few days passed and some more news came out that was at least partially confirmed by Elon.
There was no way people could have simply lost interest in him and were fed up talking about his purchase of Twitter. It was the algorithm that was wrong.
So Elon got his employees together and implemented what they call: "power user multiplier".
Which boosts his posts by a significant factor and is only implemented on his account.
I find this especially hilarious as I vividly remember Elon being so completely critical of the previous Twitter regime. Criticizing them for manipulating the platform. To quote one of his current employees that apparently came out:
“He bought the company, made a point of showcasing what he believed was broken and manipulated under previous management, then turns around and manipulates the platform to force engagement on all users to hear only his voice,”
I looked at the views he is getting now after the change and what he got before it. There does seem to be a difference. Not as visible as those reporting on this might suggest but then again, I did only browse a min or 2 through his profile.
Observing Twitter is really fascinating as the deterioration of the original promise is so obviously visible. Give it a few years and everyones Twitter feed will have Elons stamp of approval.
Speech cant be free is someone controls it. Even if they do not act, they still can act, and that by itself makes speech "permitted" not "free."
And Elon definitely is acting. Silencing BBCs documentary on Modi being the latest blunder.
History has proven that the greatest minds tend to be a bit crazy in the context of society but this guy is about to win the race, I think Twitter probably is too big to fail but at the same time if someone can make Twitter fail is Elon, "power user multiplier" WTH , thx for sharing✌️
I wouldnt say its too big to fail. I just think its unlikely.
Right now Elon has more fans than haters so for now Twitter is fairly safe.
