These last few months I have been trying to figure out what was wrong with Bear my canine companion, the same Bear that loves to climb trees and follows my girls everywhere. I first noticed that he was sick, when he became very stiff after going on long walks. His energy levels then began to drop and you could see that he was in pain when he went to sit down.
I researched a bit and his symptoms seem to match those for lymes disease of Tick fever as it is more commonly known in dogs.
But in the end, I took him to the local vet, as I felt I could not treat him unless I knew exactly what was wrong with him. He took a blood test and I waited a few days for the results. When I returned to get the results he told me he had not tested for tick fever, but only for Leish and that Bear had tested positive but with very low levels in his blood.
He gave me a prescription for some medication and I left. I started him on the medication, but he did not improve, in fact he seemed to have gotten worse. So I took him to another vet, who do a blood test for various different viruses. He tested positive for Lymes and his levels were quite high. They advised me to give him antibiotics, I was very resistant but they told me that it was quite advanced so he really needed them.
I do not have a lot of faith in modern medicine and don't use it for me or my girls, but I would if I had too. I felt like I had to with Bear, so I did. After 3 days he had deteriorated greatly and had began howling out in pain. I was awake with him in the night, trying to comfort him every half an hour.
It was so horrible to watch him suffer that much. He became quite lifeless and I expected the worst. It was one of the longest nights of my life. I decided to stop his antibiotics and hoped for the best.
I arranged with a friend of mine to take me to another vet in another town, when we were leaving she told me about this healer on the coast that she had seen and asked if I wanted her to contact him to see if he worked with animals. She contacted him and he asked that we send him a picture. After receiving it he told me that it was serious and that he could make a remedy to help him. He did not need to see Bear in person, so my friend drove to the coast whilst I stayed at home with Bear and kept him comfortable.
He gave her some homoeopathy remedies in a bottle and instructed that I add 15 drops in a half litter of water and give him a little every 15 minutes. I saw an improvement immediately, he became more relaxed and then slept for 6 hours with no outbursts of pain. I was so relieved.
For the last 3 weeks I have been giving him this remedy every hour, meaning I have rarely left the truck. But his recovery seemed to plateau and I realized that he needed something else. So I started him on magnesium, glucosamine, selenium and MSM, along with CBD Oil. He did improve a bit, but I felt like there was something else happening with him.
A few days ago. I contacted an animal communicator to see if she could come and see bear. She has worked with a lot of animals and told me that she would be able to find out what was happening and what treatment he needed.
She came today and I must say that I was quite nervous, I guess I was preparing myself for the worst, just in case.
She spend over 2 hours with me an bear and she went through so much. At the beginning she wanted to connect with Bear and she asked how he was,his response was to show her want her wanted to be doing. To be outside with the girls, running around and sniffing trees.
She got quite a strong sense of the colour yellow and straight away I thought Liver, just as she did. I sat and watched her in awe as she connected with Bear and used a pendulum to narrow down what was wrong with him.
And so we discovered that Bear developed an infection after he was neutered last year ( a decision that was very difficult for me, but at the end of the day there are so many abandoned dogs where I live). This infection went unchecked and as a result lower his immune system. He then developed Lyme’s disease and because of the infection, the antibiotics where way to strong for his liver to process.
He has 4 different issues that I need to deal with at the moment. One is the liver, which I need to get a homoeopathy remedy for. 8She dowsed to see what sort of treatment he needed and it was very evident he needed homoeopathy.)
He also has an inflamed kidney, which I will treat with turmeric and coconut oil. Black pepper is not good for dogs, so using it with the turemic is not a good idea, but that is why I use the coconut oil instead. I have also got to get some cranberry extract for him. (this all came from Bear).
For the lymes disease I need to continue with the homoeopathy that I have been giving him, only I need a lower dosage after 3 days.
He also does have low level Leish, which I will continue to treat with the supplements and I need to put him back on the medication that the first vet suggested. I will also continue to use the CBD oil to help with the inflammation he has and for overall pain.
Poor Bear , he has really been hit hard with all of this. I also have to keep him on a very good diet. I have had to cook chicken for him and make bone broth, which as a vegan has been pretty full on. But that is my choice and I would never expect my canine friends to follow suit.
So I have another month of intense treatments and monitoring for him. But at least I know know exactly what is going on. This will be expensive, so I will have to reach out to family to help, but he is such a huge part of my family that I would never not consider doing it for him.
I am so impressed with the animal communicator. I didn't know what to expect before she came, but when she went to sit with Bear, he gave her his paw, which says it all to be honest. She was so thorough and had such an amazing energy. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

ah thank you beautiful, I am so relieved to finally know. how I wish I could communicate better with him xx
Poor Bear! As someone who lives with chronic Lyme disease, I really feel for him. It's nothing to mess around with. I do hope he can clear it out of his system soon!
thank you @goldenoakfarm I am so sorry to hear that you have Lymes, I would love to know how you treat yourself, if you are open to sharing that is xxx
I did 18 months of various heavy duty antibiotics to no avail in 2008 - 2009 when I was finally dx'd. I've apparently had it since childhood, so firmly entrenched. I started changing my diet in 2008 and that has had the single biggest effect. We raise as much of our own food as we can, very nutrient dense as we can make it. organic if it's not ours, if possible.
But because it went untreated for decades, there's a lot of neurological damage and that won't be reversed. So early complete treatment is key....
It sucks to see them unwell. Bear certainly seems to be going through the mill right now but you seem to be well on top of things Ash. I'm rooting for you both.
Good to hear you found out what was wrong. Regular doctors are often too short-sighted.
May Bear recover soon!
