Yes. Geofencing I believe is what they call it. That is what most of the US is doing. Waymo is focusing upon this area.
Tesla is, of course, taking a more holistic approach.

There use to be people who operated elevators and those who transferred called at the local switchboard of the telephone company. No longer is that the case.
