Fun at Dawn - Awesome ancient engineering in a different light

in Photography Lovers2 years ago

Beauty is not only in living things. I noticed it in buildings too. Especially pre-dawn and at dawn.

'We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us' -Churchill

So true. Some of these buildings have perhaps shaped men, communities and nations. Today they may be forlorn and uninhibited. Some have the status of monuments and some not but they surely have beauty!

Like this ancient smallish temple that sits forgotten in the countryside... It does not look like much when seen in daylight but look at it at dawn - with the sun aligned perfectly with it's tall tower perfectly at winter solstice!

Ancient engineering - alignment at dawn

In contrast with this forgotten old temple, a very famous structure which earmarks heritage of a city also forms a very interesting subject at night. During daytime, it is surrounded by a sea of humanity. Not photogenic at all. However, it assumes magical stature at predawn - with faint clouds in the background being pre-lit by the sun which is yet to come up. Harsh construction lights add a contrast to this backdrop..

Pre-dawn majesty!

The buildings at the sides also get highlighted and look beautiful. By day - a drab government office and a hospital but surreal beauty at pre-dawn...

Timeless surreal beauty at dawn

Not only buildings but large statues too, look somehow calm and really divine during that pre-dawn light. This large statue of Lord Shiva looks devoid of beauty during daylight to most eyes but as darkness thickens, pre-dawn and starts twinkle, the statue seems so divine..

Just Divine in pre-dawn darkness!!

It is my personal experience that a structure does not even have to be tall and mighty to look beautiful in the pre-dawn magic hour.

A tiny hut like structure too, looked absolutely amazing in a slightly long exposure shot - illuminated by the faint pre-dawn glow... The stars (including the Orion cluster) just add to the beauty..

My main interest in photography is wildlife photography. Therefore, I neither have the experience nor specialized equipment required for Architectural photography. The pictures above are just my attempts to capture some beauty that I could notice.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures ...

Please comment freely and let me know your opinion. I will try to bring many different types of wildlife photos/macro/Astro posts to the community. Feedback and comments are welcome,. I am still learning many techniques and always value feedback from experts in this community.

Have a nice day everyone. Cheers!

Incredible shot (the first one). What gear did you use to take it?

The statute must have been super impressive to see with your own eyes. The size of it... it is way bigger than it looks like, right?

@rubencress Hi. thanks for the appreciation. I used Nikon d500 and a 200-500 lens since that is the gear I was out with for wildlife photography 😀 Got this shot instead. The statue is very tall (123 feet apparently). I had to go to the roof of a distant building to get that shot
