Some of you know that I do some gardening; I'm reasonably good at it, but like all things, there's failures. I enjoy it though and, because in nature things go wrong sometimes, I accept the fact that not every plant I put into soil will thrive and sometimes crops fail or are not as magnificent as I at first imagined they would be.
I've been lucky though, most of what I've planted has done very well and I've had the chance to enjoy the process of planting, nurturing and eating them in the case of my fruits and vegetables, and to simply enjoy the non-edible plants for what they are.
Last weekend I was in the garden taking a look around and decided to take some photos. It's been a while since I've done a gardening post and I plan to do one at some stage, but for something different I thought I'd take my macro lens out and see what I could capture.
I decided to work with only one plant, my lemon tree. It has some flower buds and open flowers, the lemons are starting to turn from green to yellow and the green leaves are always interesting so I figured I'd shoot images of the one tree and see if I could get enough good shots for a post.
I took ninety nine photos altogether but singled out only nine for this post. There are others I could have used but I think nine is enough. There were a few duds also, under-exposed, blurry and so on, but overall, most were reasonable.
I brought out my trusty water spray bottle to get things a little wet; I like the look the water droplets give as they add interest so don't be fooled, the water didn't fall from the sky in a glorious pre-photo-shoot autumn rain...I sprayed it on myself.
I don't want to put a lot of text into this post so I'll not go on and on about it; the photos speak for themselves really and I know most people don't read text anyway, especially here in this community.
Feel free to scroll around and see what you think and if you have a favourite one let me know in the comments below, I'm always happy to chat with people as it's a great way to build relationships.
As well as my lemon three, I have a grapefruit and a few orange trees that are going really well and maybe I'll photograph them sometime, but for now thanks for taking a look at the photos of my lemon tree. It's going really great, which I'm happy with, and I look forward to drinking tea with my own lemon in it soon.

Every image in this post is my own.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III was used to capture these images.
I'm glad i wasn't the only one that realized not many people read the posts in this community! hahaha What were those purple flowers?
I've grown miniature orange trees for a lot of years now, and there's nothing like watching them go from green to orange... the color stippling is super cool. I would imaging the same could be said for yellow lemons too. I just haven't been there for that color swap. Though, i could kind of see some of that process beginning in a couple of your shots! Great stuff browski.
It doesn't bother me too much, I'm not the no word post guy so I'll keep writing words. As long as the photography lovers community admins and mods don't get sick of my photos and text then it's all good.
That colour-change process is good, late this year due to the odd weather (watch out for the ice age coming to a planet near you) but it's happening. When I get some strongly yellow ones I might do a post, also with the oranges as well.
Thanks for your nice comments, I appreciate it.
Nicely done with the water drops! I like that the lemons look so vibrant and fresh. I almost want to make a little bit of lemonade.
I have to admit, I really like the 3rd from the last, I do like it up close and personal. Also the fourth from the last is visually nice to me, with flowers and the lemon. I like it! It is very appealing to me.
I just realized that I repeat myself. Must be time to go to bed.
Lol, some things must be revisited over and over again.
Besides, some things must be revisited over and over again.
I logged on and realized just how much I repeated myself. I'm not sure it had anything to do with bed. Then again, I'm not sure it didn't. 😳
Well, if you're making the lemonade, and there's a little left over, I could be thirsty. Maybe I'll get an invite. A text will be fine, no need for a formal invite. Lol.
Lol
This is just so sublime 😍❤️
Thanks for your sublime thoughts, @sublimethoughts, Lol.
Ok, a dumb joke, I know.
Haha.. no, a good one.
How are you?
I always worry when I bust out a stupid joke that I'll be judged...those that know me accept it knowing I'm a total knucklehead but those who don't...well, I guess they probably just think I'm a knucklehead. Hmm, it's interesting how things come full-circle. Lol.
I'm ok, just getting through my day, working in front of my computer mainly, although I'm off for a beach walk later to watch the sunset. Not bad work if you can get it huh?
I hope you're well also.
It is good that you do bust out a joke. I often keep my jokes to myself in the fear of being mistaken which, I think, is wrong in someway. I should be more expressive in that regard.. I am not judgmental at all and your joke made me smile.
Beach walks and watching the sunset is a sure boost for me as well and often put me at ease. I am doing good, had been busy with the Eid and family gatherings during the festival which is why could not be active here. Looking forward to sharing that experience here😄
Have a great day, Galen. I hope I can call you with your name..
Wrong indeed. Let them be free! Life is too short not to celebrate your youness!
Ah yeah, Eid is celebrated here also amongst the Muslim community. Maybe one day I'll get invited, I've heard food features prominently. That's my kind of celebration!
I'll work on that..
I am pretty sure you'll enjoy it once you get invited
Lucky you. I can only see these trees in the zoo, where they have a small greenhouse and the fruitsin the grocerystores. You took some amazing photos.
Thanks Erika, the accolades need to go to the lemon tree, it did all the hard work. 😁
Wonderful photos! I really love the one with the big water droplet about to fall. And yes, I read all the text, I'm so happy for you that you're getting to harvest some of your own lemons soon, no doubt they will taste so much better than the store bought variety!
They'll be lemony, and if they're not I'll know I picked fruit off the wrong tree. I'm thinking, if they taste orangey then I picked them off the orange tree and if grapefruitey well, that'll be the grapefruit tree.
Actually, come to think of it, if oranges are called oranges because they're orange, why aren't lemons called yellows because they're yellow? That's a mystery that certainly needs solving.
I seriously doubt you'll pick the wrong fruit, knowing how you probably wouldn't be too happy with grapefruity tea instead of lemon tea!
It is a conundrum, but why the fuck are litchi's called that? Vampire fruit in sheep's clothing.
A wise man once said:
"If your tea tastes like grapefruit you done fucked up your fruit picking, but if your tea tastes like lemon you have selected well and you're not a nutbag."
I have lived my life around this wise quotation.
🤣
Wise indeed!
One must embrace wise words of wisdomy wiseness.
I agree with everything you said about gardening 👍 @galenkp. I never imagined how beautiful the lemon flower bud is until I saw your post today. I have one lemon tree at home which is my first-time planting and seeing your post made me feel excited about my lemon to fruit soon😁.
You're going to love the blooms when they appear and, of course, when you're drinking tea with your own lemon slice in it the tea tastes so much better. Are you putting the plant in the ground like mine or are you keeping it potted?
Yes, it makes the feeling better if it comes from what we worked hard for. Right now it's in the pot because I haven't decided where is a good space to locate this since it will be growing big soon.
I'm sure it'll grow well for you and yield many round yellow sour things.
May your tea be lemony.
Hopefully 🙏🙏🙏.
Thank you @galenkp I'll let you know the progress soon 😉.
Sneaky, sneaky, taking a water spray bottle into the garden to take photos. But I understand why, there’s just something about water droplets on leaves or blooms or… lemons. The shots are all great, if I had to pick just one I’d choose the second to last one. It has a real fresh feel to it.
Well, I guess enhancing the image with a little spray of water is referable to enhancing it with software and representing it falsely. So, I'm content with using the water bottle.
I like that second last one also, although there's a bright spot of light on it which makes it look kind of wak. Oh well, I'm not a professional photographer and my shots aren't ever going to win any awards.
Everyone has their own way of thinking. If any of us looked at lemons, we would not have thought that these lemons could be presented to other people in such a beautiful way.
Very Nice Thinking. I am so impressed. Thanks for entertaining.
I think macro photography adds some interest to things that may not typically be all that interesting, like lemons.
Your photos are really very sharp. And the camera you use is really very expensive in our area I really want to have it too someday. So that I can get very good photos like you
Thanks, I'm glad you liked my images. With the camera, yeah it was pretty costly here too but I went without some things, saved up some money, and managed to get it purchased along. It came with a three lens kit and I bought the macro lens separately. I've been really pleased with the results. I hope you manage to get one so you can take some pictures.
wow, you managed to take some shots of such beautiful flowers, moreover coupled with some water spots that make an object look more attractive with some of your best shots
Yeah, who would have thought one could make a Hive post about one single lemon tree and a few water droplets?
At first glance, it is possible to think of photos taken after the rain. warning is good. haha :) thanks.
That was my plan, I think the effect is believable and had I not said I used a water spray bottle no one would have cause to think it was anything other than rainfall.
this is true. Good luck 👍💙
Beautiful photos and very nice idea to wet things.
Thank you, I had fun making lemons interesting.
What beautiful pictures, I love the fruit with the dew, especially the one where you can see the drop, it's wonderful.
Thank you @galenkp!❤️
Thank you, I had some fun doing this shoot, and thinking up ways to make a lemon tree interesting. I went for a beach walk tonight, keep a look out for the snaps, coming up in a few days. :)
I will always keep a close eye on your pictures, I love them!!!
These ones might bore you, more sunsets. But they're a little different. You'll see and if you don't like them I don't mind, I'm a big boy, I can handle it.
I don't think I'm bored, never one sunset is the same as another, I'm also a big girl and I never cease to be surprised!
Well then, prepare to be amazed at my totally average photography coming to a Thursday near you. 😁
Ok Thursday I will keep this in mind!😀
Lemonade is great though XD and there's so many other things that can be done with lemons! Including photos, these are great too XD
Looks like there are a few ready to go. We got some starting to yellow up too :)
Oranges are taking a bit longer though. The kids next door apparently thought they were limes and found out the hard way XD
They're a little late ripening up this year, the weather has been crappy. There's a few that are close though and I'll be turning those into this, by special request from someone I owe a cake and cup of tea to. And yeah, bloody oranges are taking their time. I think you folks as us have had very similar weather, as always I guess.
The seventh photo is pure art, no exaggeration.
This is the most my Samsung can do in terms of photography...
Took a bunch of these after the rain stopped. After editing them, all will look a bit better, but a smartphone can't match a mirrorless or a DSLR, but at least it's handy...
Oh yeah, that one...I spent a lot of time getting that, the bloody drops clkept falling off at the wrong time!
My Samsung gets good pictures, like the one you captured and shared above, but at this point it can't match a camera. It might not be long before it does though, considering how quickly they are advancing. Still, they do a pretty good job right? You have an S22 right? I have the same, but the Ultra version which I'm really happy with.
Mine is the normal S21 version. Ultras have better cameras... I like the performance of the S23 Ultra cameras but the thing is huge. I'm more of a compact phone fan, but these ones don't sport insanely good cameras.
Oh, and true, DSLRs and mirrorless are way superior to any Galaxy camera, but you don't get to carry these around at all times...
There has to be a tradeoff.
A trade-off indeed. I'm not a carry phone around all the time guy. I leave it home a lot, and mostly it's on flight mode. My phone is for my own convenience not other people's and if they have something important they'll text or leave a message. Nothing is so vital that I need to attend to it with immediate effect. But, I carry it around when I'm likely to be somewhere I might get some images. I take my camera a lot of placed for the same reason.
I'm the type who takes his smartphone everywhere, thus size matters.
Fair enough. The S22 Ultra is sort of big although I put it in my pocket, the back one usually. I also have a big-ass case for it, to protect it from drops and that adds to the bulk. I'll get a smaller one next time I think, but I may need bionic eyes to go with it.
You can do some tweaks on it for better visibility. I'm not a fan of using cases but these new models really need em. They're so slippery... I remember how tough the Nokia 3310 was. Dropped it tens of times on all sorts of surfaces and barely had a few scratches.
9 amazing photos, and as you said, they can give their own meaning without having to add captions to the beautiful pictures you share, the water droplets in the last third image are really amazing and really caught my attention
Hi and thanks for commenting on my post. It was enjoyable to put this together and I think the water droplets have added a nice but of interest.
Congratulations on some very fine-looking fruit. The photography is amazing.
Thank you, it's going really well, along with all my other stuff, and there was no complaints from the lemon tree when I asked it to pose for photos. I originally asked the orange tree, but he wanted royalties.
I know you do a lot of gardening. If I may ask, did you learn gardening or you just know how to do it?
You have got nice pictures...
I started gardening as a four year old with my parents growing some of the foods we ate. I've kept it up for most of my life.
