Drum lesson The syncopation Book 1. Alternating single and double stroke roll.

in Music4 years ago

If there is a drum book that is a must for every drummer and covers every music style, I would say that is the Syncopation book by Ted Reed.
Syncopation was written in 1929 and it was meant to be the book for marching drums but Alan Dawson, one of the renown drum teachers at Berkley school in Boston and an extraordinary drummer who has performed with Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, Lee Konitz, Quincy Jones, Charles Mingus took this book in the 80s taught how to interpret it incorporating drum rudiments and improvisation ideas.

In this series of videos I will be covering a lot of this interpretations by Alan Dawson but also I will include some of mine.
This first video talks about alternating single stroke rolls and double stroke rolls.
I'm taking page 20 21 22 and 23 which are very easy to read.

Buon divertimento
