Crypto prices can go up, and they can go down. While they impact our psyche, they shouldn't alter the fact that we are still together as a community. It shouldn't change the reality of what we try to do with Hive. Why are we here, and why have we stayed for this number of years...Reasons could be different for each individual, but I hope that there are some common threads that usually emerge. Each week, with this community magazine, our efforts have always been positive, give people some purpose, and shine the light in our little corner of the blockchain social network. For the last 44 weeks, each time I have sat down to write the editorial, I have felt a sense of purpose to be the voice of reason, to be the voice of success regardless of the current price of Hive token. It is effortless to drift into who gets what, or which blockchain is better, or who gets more rewards from this blockchain, and what is fair and what is not. Personally, I am least interested in any of these matters. Our only goal should be to control ourselves, improve ourselves, learn a new skill, improve a new skill, and hopefully be financially free via personal growth of ideas. Each week, several community members spend hours from their busy schedule to write for this magazine, paint for this magazine, and decorate this magazine with beautiful words of poetry. I am deeply indebted to you all.

Not to toot our horns, but when we started this magazine, there was hardly any cohesive effort to make ourselves visible or heard. After nearly a year (yeah, I know we are 2 months away), multiple members contribute positively to several aspects of Hive.

@reazuliqbal is one of the prominent web developers of hive blockchain @zaku is one of the most prominent merchants of Splinterlands (among many other things) @zayedsakib, @notacinephile, and @simplifylife are all excellent writers, and the first two are curators for the new Cine tribe. They are also very successful in their own trading, 3D Graphics businesses, and medicine, respectively @artistparthoroy is a prominent painter and now exploring digital media and the world of NFT @deepu7's poetry recitals are some of the best I have ever heard @surrealfia's wit and tenacity is something I wish all our women have @hossainbd is one of the top professional Splinterland player and a successful card and NFT merchant

There are numerous other contributors to the community and the magazine who are constantly helping us. The reason I wanted to say this is simply the fact, just look at yourself, where you were 10 months back and where you are now. During a time when the rest of the world struggled to stay at their usual spot but failed as individuals to sustain growth, you all have been a beacon of your community and personal development. Regardless of the price of Hive, you deserve congratulations, and you all should be very proud of yourself. You guys give me hope.

VHS videotapes became famous in 1970, but I only knew them at their dusk. The first VHS tape I rented was in 2001, I was a 5th grader, and had to see Lord of the Rings. A few of my fellow classmates who had VHS players at home talked about magic, dragons, and a small djin.

Now, we didn't have a VHS player. We didn't have a TV even. No, there was no financial issue; we were pretty affluent even. It was a traditional ekannoborti (joint) family with all my paternal aunts, uncles, their children—with my grandfather as the patriarch. Now, he was a moulvi (religious authority of sort) who was very much opposed to the idea of a TV. He called it Shaytaner Baksho (the box of the devil). So watching that VHS tape of LOTR was out of the question.

But it was a time when neighbors were close. When foods were still shared among them regularly. When people from one household frequented their neighboring ones. When people were genuinely social. One of my neighbors had a VHS player, and I went to their home to see my film.

source

Lord of the rings was one of the earliest Hollywood films I saw (before that, I only saw south Asian films with their absurd musicals)—and that experience changed my perception of the medium for good. Of course, I couldn't rent many movies as I had no system at home, and as a boy, I had no means to buy a system either. Still, I did rent tapes from time to time and took them to whoever wanted to let me see them at their home. Many did, as they didn't have to pay for the film and got to see it for free.

And before long, VHS started to disappear. CDs were already taking over the industry. It was an inevitable change, but those tapes bear the mark of my growing up. A sort of affinity I still feel towards them.

A past teaches us a lot. Everyone has a history that can be good or bad. Some try to hold on to it; some yearn to forget.

Everything was fine in our family. Everything needed to be happy in a family was there. There was love, affection, tenderness. Suddenly everything was dusted. An accident is a lifelong cry. That is what happened that day. As soon as I returned home after the evening prayers, I was frightened by the sound of faint cries from the house. Because before that, there was no sound of crying or any such incident. As I said above, I thought we were the happiest in the world. That happiness, peace took a different shape in an instant.

The more times you think of a laughing event, the more it loses its ability to laugh, and the more times you think of a traumatic event, the less it hurts. By doing this, I am keeping it down. I've thought a lot about what happened on that day, almost every time I've thought about it. Thinking like this all the time, at one point, I saw that things started to become very routine. But the effect that hit the family is still not right. Peace, love, the evening breeze, dinner together have all changed; they have never returned. Telling someone about the pain reduces the pain. But some things happen in our lives that we can't even share. We have to keep them in ourselves for the rest of our lives.

Legacy - the word has a profound ring to it. What do we wish to achieve, how did we want to leave our mark on the world, what do we make of ourselves with the limited time we have, and what do we want to leave behind for others to remember us? That's too many queries to consider. At one time or another, these questions crossed our minds. We dread that the little ones do not have to go through all the torments that we have faced and try to wrap a massive bubble around them so that their life goes smoothly; often, that sentiment is viewed as coddling.

My colleague was telling me about an incident he had with a cafe owner. It was not a big brawl that ended with food and accessories, carts being trashed, or shops vandalized. It was a rather odd conversation, but I had a lot to reflect on. So, my colleague and his friend were having their afternoon tea near a cafe, and there are quite a few tea and snacks vendors and restaurants in my office area due to it being a commercial zone. The buddies were conversing about their jobs, social lives, family, and whatnot. They were familiar with the few vendors standing there, and sometimes they'll be replying too when they get a chance. At one point, they started talking about what they will leave behind for their future generation. If you wonder that it's absurd, then let me tell you the idea isn't that absurd around here. People mostly think of what they'll be leaving behind for their children and grandchildren and barely think of themselves or what they want. The two companions are in a managerial level position with a hefty salary of 100k (in bdt) plus perks. So, they were planning for their kids' higher education and the properties that would sustain them in the long run.

While these two were talking, the vendor in front of them was just listening and nodding away. So, my colleague's friend had asked the cafe owner about his legacy. What he answered wasn't something they expected.

Sir, you have struggled at the beginning of your career, and even though I won't be saying more about the troubles, you can imagine that the life of a street hawker like me wasn't easy. You started small, and so have I. I started as a tea vendor with a monthly 500 BDT, and it was hard; now, I'm the proprietor of this joint. You earn 100k BDT monthly, and so do I. You have a higher-level job, and I'm a proprietor. When I die or retire willingly, my son will be taking over this cafe. But will your child be sitting in your chair or have the same designation as you after your departure? I think not.

It was too much to contemplate, and the two friends were rattled but impressed nonetheless. After hearing that, my colleague and his friend talked to others about what had happened earlier that day. The cafe owner wasn't educated, but the wisdom and perception of life can't be regarded as negligible. Although each of us should build our own legacy and shouldn't rely on what our forefathers have left for us, I can understand the sentiment. Parents live out their lives through their children, and on some level, it isn't the right thing to do, and even then, it is understandable. There are big shoes to fill if thought from an opposite standpoint. Often it is seen that the successor takes for granted what the predecessors have left behind, and on rare occasions, the former surpasses the latter's establishments. However, there's also a chance that the successor will establish something big enough to cast a shadow over the predecessor.

Often we make plans for sudden tours and leave instantly. Actually, sudden plans are the best to enjoy, and these sudden plans are ubiquitous in our friend group.

A few days ago, we were planning for such a tour at 10 pm. Everyone agreed in the beginning, and suddenly one of us refused to go. He said, "I am not feeling good; I must go home." He didn't say anything else or wait for our response. He rode back home. After a few moments, we got a call from him that his mother is ill and is taking her to hospital. Thanks to the Almighty that she was fine on that night.

So the feeling he had made him go back to his home. If he had started with us, then he might not have gotten back home in time, when his mother would have called for him. This type of weird feeling often hits me. I feel that this is not going to be as planned. I should not step into this work. A negative feeling fills me. I fear those moments and try to run back from that initiative because they often proved me lucky for stepping back. I believe in ignoring negative thoughts and moving on with positivity, but trust me, this kind of weird feeling is something beyond that negative feeling. You can't always miss that one. Do listen to them who knows for who your heart beats in those moments.

কয়েকটা নমুনা দিচ্ছি;

Wow! Turni Issue 44!!! Soon we will touch new milestones.

Crypto prices can go up, and they can go down.

I have been in this space for a long time. I am learning something almost every day. Trying to acquire new skills, exploring something new, I can see myself improving more than before. I couldn’t accept this line at first, ridiculous but true. I wondered why the one that went up would go down again. However, it did not take long to realize that if the crypto price goes up, it will go down as well.

It’s true, I see a lot of changes compared to 10 months back. I am grateful to you guys for that.

Forgetting a bad past is quite a challenging issue Toushik. You are not alone, there are many people who are constantly fighting to forget the bad memories. But it’s also part of our lives, don’t blame yourself. Life is unpredictable, uncertain, just try to adapt with what you have. It's just that we're interested in thinking about something over and over again, and we get less hurt with it. But keep in mind that if it hurts you to think over and over again, then stay away from thinking about it. Don't feel alone:)

Long-planned tours do not work. Plans that are suddenly decided are as effective as they are amazing.

Plans that are suddenly decided are as effective as they are amazing.

Yes but big tours need long plans and as usual, they don't work out as successful.🤣

Dada, first of all, Turni's 1st anniversary and 50th publication are not too far apart... still too early to plan anything but just a thought.

Crypto up and crypto down... I had managed to do "Something" during last month's crash but this time I could do absolutely nothing... zero... all I'm now doing is checking what's going on and that's all. And I'm glad that so many of us are now involved here and I wonder what the next year will look like... hopeful

At first I thought "LOTR is that old? Geez" and if I think about it, I haven't seen a VHS tape after 2001 or 2002 which I'm sure of... even I saw LOTR in cds (that was in 2005)... you are talking about Bangla Chinema and their over the top mismatched songs and choreography? Wait till Elsa comes up from behind you and screams "let it go"

"What can I say except you're welcome"

Life is full of uncertainty... isn't that right Toushik? we try controlling it and control our surrounding to our best, mostly because we cannot accept that simple fact that life isn't ours to rule but to live

Minhaj (I hope you don't have to experience this anytime soon) when someone close to us falls ill, we can somehow sense it and sometimes that sense works as if someone punched us in the gut... I'm glad that your friend's mom is safe

As always Partho bhai your painting is mesmerizing

Welcome aboard Chondro bhai... Feluda... I have no words to describe how much it means... সোনার কেল্লা was the first of the feluda series that I had read... I still remember how stubborn I was to convince my father to buy it when I saw that book in the store... at that time I had no idea about who Feluda was or Sotyojit was... brought back a lot of memories...

Thanks a lot for da warm welcome, Fiapu! It means a lot to me.
Really my happiness knows no bounds being a part of this community. Finding you in such a friendly way, folks.
Have been looking forward to a blissful journey with you all.

Dua main yaad rakhna....!

we can somehow sense it and sometimes that sense works as if someone punched us in the gut

Yes yes. I have encountered these kinda feelings many times and I was later thankful for my response to them.

Amor, finishing was a bit abrupt on VHS, wanted to get a bit more :) The fact that you talk about VHS and 2001, makes me really old. I have a lot of VHS stories, almost all quite bad (the ones I remember).

Nice frame, toushik, you have a natural knack towards street photography.

@chrysanthemum welcome to this space. We still mostly talk about each other and comment, so we have failed on 'reach', but gives some people something to do and look forward to, that's all. Feel free to ask....

 3 years ago (edited)

Greatful and honored!@azircon Dada, it is an honor to become a part. Reaching is a rich rang, of inter/intra-personal exchange. Wish to 'reach' in that beach and play my flute of words.

@artistparthoroy Really Loved your poem :')

Ahh sorry.. my bad. XD I thought you did both the artwork and the poem, both complimented each other :')
