2023 Year of the Rabbit

Hello Hivers! Today, 22nd of January marks as the start of the Chinese New Year. The Year of the Rabbit. If this is the first time you are hearing this, basically this is the most important time of the year in the Chinese community.

As this post the Lunar year, living on one of the country in Asia, and since part of Philippines' diverse community is Chinese, it is very much popular even for our own culture and this year we are celebrating the Year of the Rabbit.

Chinese Zodiac Signs same with the Astrological One?

You may be familiar with the Greco-Roman Zodiac sign which is divided with twelve astrological signs. Chinese Zodiac signs on the other hand is a 12 Year cycle labeled with 12 Zodiac Animals that starts with the Rat and ends with the Pig. Unlike the Astrological Signs, Chinese zodiac sign has no association with the constellations.

The Mythical Story of the Great Race

Story goes, The Jade Emperor once wanted to measure time and organized a race for the first twelve animals to make it across the river, earns a spot to be in the zodiac sign in order that they arrive. There are many version of this story and I will tell it to you on the way I can remember it.

As the animals heard about the Great Race, The Rat woke up early to get a head start, unfortunately the rat couldn't cross the river right away due to his size and he doesn't know how to swim, but as he came near the river he saw the Tiger and the Ox, being smart as the Rat that he was he ask both animals if he could hop on to them to help him get across the river, the Tiger declined, but the kind-hearted Ox didn't mind and let the Rat on to him. As soon as the Ox and Rat was get closer ashore, the Rat hopped off the Ox and gets the first place, coming second was the Ox, and followed by the Tiger on third place. A loud thumping in the bushes came in the Rabbit hopping from stones to logs and onto the shore coming at forth, then came in the Dragon at fifth which made everyone wondered why since it can fly, even the Emperor ask, "How come you came in late?" and the Dragon responded, "As I was nearing the river, I had to help some villager that I passed by, even saw the Rabbit struggling and I had to help him too".

As they waited more, the Horse arrived galloping to earn his spot, little did he know the Snake was wrapped around his feet. Surprised and scared, the Snake stole his spot and so the Horse landed at the seventh position. Soon a trio arrived altogether, The Monkey, The Rooster and The Goat, unlike the first few who arrived, the Trio helped each other to reach the other side of the river, and as they made it across the three decided to give the eighth spot to the Goat since it did most of the work, followed by the Monkey and the Rooster. After awhile came in the Dog on the eleventh spot, although the dog was a great swimmer it, he wanted to had a good clean bath and was tempted with the River, as the Race about to close, everyone heard a loud OINK, came in the Pig sealing the twelfth. The Emperor couldn't help but ask, "Why are you late?", the Pig responded "I got hungry and I had to stop by for some food! Good thing I still be able to got a spot!".

and thus the twelve Animal represent the twelve Chinese zodiac sign, and this repeats the cycle every sixty years, Which assiociated with the Two over lapping system, the Twelve Earthly Branches and the Ten Heavenly Stems that is link with the Five Classical elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Each of this element are assigned with the Yin or Yang that creates a ten year cycle. When a zodiac animal matches the Twelve Earthly branches, Ten Heavenly Stems, Elements and the Yin/Yang, this form the whole sixty year of cycle known as the Sexagenary Cycle.

Belief in Luck

What do you think? Have you seen your fortune from above? Personally, I do not believe in luck, as I was thought and trained to have a Dream and Setting Goals to achieve the dream and Consistent Action and be Persistent and so technically it creates more Luck. Whether we believe on Luck or not, there is nothing wrong with it. But did you know most Chinese, culturally based there Fortune, Investments, Business on this zodiacs? And most people in China is, guess what?? They're all RICHHH! so somehow that makes me want to look at this too (LOL).

But how I look at this would be this way, So if basing on the Animals, my birth year falls under the year of the Ox, looking at the Fortune above seems like leans towards a so-so year for me, so it's best to turn those negative fortune, to positive ones in Real life, and maybe I could turn the bad jujus to a positive one!

So I'll end my post here and this is my entry for HivePh Posting contest, if you're a Filipino content creator and wants to connect with your Kababayans! You can join the Hive Ph Discord channel here! #kuneho

Regardless of the fortunes above I wish you all a fruitful and wonderful year! I hope that we all make it and let's work hard for what we want to achieve and may we all prosper! Kung hei fat choi!

Tell me about your luck on the comments below and what you think of luck? Cheers!

It's really fun to know what the year would be based on these signs. Ako naman, I tend to look at it again at the end of the year to see if totoo nga hahaha
Mukhang okay naman yung prediction sa sign ko this year hahaha haluan na lang din ng sipag to make it work, just like what Chinese peeps do.

weirdly i dont see any good read from any of my zodiacs so i either read it differently or not at all and just read bruce lee's quote hahaha

the hell with circumstances, I create opportunity.

but im happy people see their luck and opportunities on this kinds, and yes chinese mentality is the sh*t! as long as its not zero, it's a profit!

I hope you have a great year C! thanks for reading.
