Hola, FEVY-ulous people! I’m Fevymae, 21 years old, and currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, majoring in Social Studies at a well-known state university here in Cebu. You maybe noticed the word FEVY-ulous here. Well, it’s a combination of my name, Fevy, and the word fabulous. I chose this pen name because I believe that no matter what life throws at me, my existence remains fabulous. I find beauty in every experiences and continue to believe that there’s always a silver lining in every difficulty you will encounter in life.
Now, back to my story: I am the eldest of four siblings, the eldest grandchild, eldest niece, and the first in line to take on the household responsibilities. While some might make fun of this because it seems like I'm a future Queen of the British monarchy and everyone would say "you're lucky." My tale is far from the luxurious life of a royal. Most people think being "first in line" is an advantage, but for me, it's a different story. Being the eldest means I’m the first in line for the burden of taking care everyone at home and family. The stress of expectations from others and from myself is always there. I constantly fear of failing in achieving my dreams or becoming a disappointment to my family. The pressure is no joke, and I’ve been into numerous breakdowns to achieve even the smallest breakthroughs in my life.
But as I’ve grown, I’ve learned that thinking positive in life is important. Life’s challenges may be fearful, but I must face them with courage and give my best every day to keep moving forward. Despite the burden I carry as the eldest in an Asian household, I strive to see the beauty in what I have right now and work hard everyday to achieve my goals.
My FEVY-ulous Hobbies and Interests
Growing up, I discovered various interests. As far back as I can remember, my first passion during childhood was singing. Thankfully, my parents were very supportive of this, and my mom even bought me a microphone so I could sing freely at home. I vividly remember how my mom, being so supportive, would patiently write down the lyrics of popular songs at that time and help me practice singing them. One of our favorites was The Journey by Lea Salonga. Back then, I love the song because of its tune. But now, I love the song as I deeply understand its message and appreciate it even more because it’s so inspiring to listen to. Every time I hear it, I feel comforted and reminded that, though life is full of challenges, I must face them bravely, to be appreciative for what I have right now, and to continue on working hard toward my goals.
As time passed, I discovered another passion: writing stories. Since gadgets weren’t as common back then, and usually only adults had cellphones, I spent my time writing stories in my notebook. I would wake up earlier than everyone else at home just to continue writing. My interest in writing began because, on weekends, our family would come together to watch dramas or movies on a television. Watching television exposed me to different life scenarios, unleashing my imagination and inspiring me to write my own tales. I even dreamed that someday, my stories might be shown on television.
As I grew older and became more confident, I discovered another passion: this time, dancing. I joined the Performing Arts Club at my previous school and even became the Vice President of the club. Dancing made me feel happy and allow me to express myself fully. This newly discovered love for dancing at that time turned into a passion, and up to this day, when we have free time, my sister and I enjoy learning dance covers online.
Reflecting on the past, I realize I don't stick to just one hobby or passion. Instead, I let myself explore various things and discovered several hobbies and passions that I still treasure today. I believe these talents are gifts from God because, instead of feeling tired after doing them, they only fill my heart with joy.
The Prime Reason for Joining this FEVY-ulous Platform & What I Can Contribute Here
"I'm scared about doing this because it is not as good as my sister's work." This was a common thought I used to have growing up. I did the heavy lifting of always striving to give my best in everything I did, just to be as talented as my sister. Being "identical twins," we only not look alike physically, but we also shared almost identical interests and hobbies—in which I’m grateful for because it brought us closer as siblings. However, it also came with the pressure of always being compared. People often expected me to be as talented in dancing or as naturally skilled in writing "like her." But the truth is, I am not my sister's shadow, I am a completely different individual, and I have my own unique way of doing things.
These never-ending comparisons only made me too scared to try new things and missed out many opportunities during my high school years. I became the shy girl in class, I am too afraid to come out of my shell. Honestly, it took me a long time to bring back confidence and trust in my capabilities, especially when it came to writing again, particularly on this platform where my stories can be read by people from different parts of the world, it felt scary, indeed. But then, I realized I owe it to my younger self, who always believed and never doubted in my capabilities.
I want my stories here to stand as a testament that life isn’t always about having a FEVY-ulous day. Sometimes, we have to encounter challenges to truly appreciate what we have and turn those challenges into motivation to strive harder and work toward our dreams. My stories will also serve as a reminder that it’s never too late to live life to the fullest, and even in the midst of struggles, life can still be FEVY-ulous. Moreover, I want to be inspired by reading the uplifting stories of other FEVY-ulous individuals here. Let's learn and support one another and make Hive a safe haven for us all.
FEVY-ulous People who Introduced me to Hive
Before this, I had lost hope in bringing back to life my "writer era." Without writing, I honestly felt like a black and white creation, boring and incomplete. I had completely no knowledge of Hive, but a million thanks to my kind-hearted classmate @brandonwrites who introduced it to me. Knowing my love for writing in the past, he shared his amazing experiences with Hive and call it as an inspiring platform, a safe haven where I could comfortably bring back my passion for writing while also being motivated by the incredible stories shared by others. On November 9, 2024, I immediately attended an orientation about Hive led by Miss @jeannmazing, where everything about Hive was further explained. The orientation made me even more interested with Hive, as I realized it could not only bring back my love for writing but also Hive can help me further improve my communication and writing skills, in which these abilities are essential in many areas of life. As I end this blog, I want y'all to know that I immensely appreciate you for reading my FEVY-ulous self-introduction blog. Until next time, dear readers!
