Right in the middle of Canberra is Australia's National Botanical Gardens. It is nestled into the side of Black Mountain right underneath the Communications tower. Being located on the side of a mountain means means you can easily build up a sweat and work on a bit of fitness, just walking around.
There was plenty of wildlife just hanging about.
All the wonderful colorful flowers seem to attract the birds.
There was a good gift shop, I liked all the wooden Christmas decorations.
This Xanthorrhoea grass tree has the biggest and fattest flower I have ever seen, I hope to ones I put in at home grow this well.
The Gardens were divided up into a different section for each state of Australia
I like theses Banksia bushes as well, I want a couple for my front yard.
The Telstra Communications tower is a 195 meter tall and has a viewing area part the way up but is currently closed for refurbishment.
My favorite spot was all the water dragon lizards down in the Tasmanian section.
They were hard to spot at first.
But they were every where enjoying with warm rocks in the sun.
After all the walking and exploring it was time to check out the popular onsite Botanic gardens cafe called "Pollen" and see what they had to enjoy.
I had the Healthy Breakfast closest. $19.90 Aud two free range poached eggs, roasted eggplant & tomato marinated feta, chickpeas, za’atar, fried basil, dukkah, injera bread. I have never heard of half this stuff but it was good. @consciouscat had the Smoked Trout Salad at the top of picture.
