All due respect

At my age, it’s unlikely that I could persuade anyone to purchase sexual favours from me. Still, should I be so propositioned on a dark night by a blind man with a penchant for wrinkled, lined and flabby old ladies, the answer would be a resounding no. Such a thing I consider degrading and simply beyond the pale.

I have done things others might regard as ever so slightly on the wrong side of right, but I draw the line at anything demeaning or unseemly. This includes assuming the surrender position in airport scanners, mask-wearing during the covid nonsense or permitting some randomer to insert an object into my nasal passage. Perhaps it’s an old-fashioned view but for me self-respect is paramount. It would be impossible to contemplate anything so degrading as selling myself, body or soul, or indeed not defending myself in a fight.

I’ve been in many a physical fight, most but not all in my childhood. I’ve waxed lyrical in previous posts about my heroic battle with a lowlife mugger from which I emerged victorious, as well as my fearlessness and derring-do on not one but two occasions when faced with gangs of marauding robbers. As a child I recall several instances of rolling around the ground scratching, screaming and hair pulling when set upon by some local yahoos because I had elephant ears, wore weird clothes or because my mother moonlighted as the local drunk. If I’m attacked it’s indignation and not fear that drives me. How dare they? I cannot allow them to get the better of me!

These days my only battles are with weeds and slugs so I’ve no idea how I’d fare in a bout of fisticuffs. But having practised karate as well as boxing in the past, I'm sure I still have some good moves left in me.

asking 'Would you you trade sexual favours to pay a debt?' and
'Have you ever been in a physical fight, person to person or on the battlefield? If you have, what happened and why?' Posted in response to @galenkp's Weekend Experiences prompt

Hear Hear! I applaud your resourcefulness...never go down without a kicking, spitting, scratching hissy fit lol.

That's the ticket!
'We shall fight on the beaches,
We shall fight on the landing grounds,
We shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
We shall fight in the hills;
We shall never surrender,'

You have certainly had some experiences in life that sound unusual to me! I don't recall getting into a physical fight with anyone, ever.

What can I say? Trouble seems to love me. I've been mugged, set upon by gangs, punched in the face and even had my ponytail cut off in the school bus. I've lived in some rough places where there's no alternative but learning to fight back.

even had my ponytail cut off

!!!!!

I know! I was distraught for months.

Hear, hear!

Adrenaline, fueled by indignation/anger--a great ally in a tight spot.

Or a recipe for disaster when you're five foot, sixty two and 45 kilos!:)

Yeah got to have self respect, I wouldn't be selling myself either.
As for fighting, I've been in a few, in my younger years and once in my twenties, that one I was not so proud of, but you know, if you push someone too much expect to get punched xx

It's the Irish in us!:)

These, and many other things, strike me as sadistic. Medical exams that are sadistic I will not do but once. That pretty much means all medical exams, so I just do not go to western doctors unless I feel my life depends on it, which, thankfully, has not happened to me often, and not at all of late.

Kids would beat you up because your mother moonlighted as a drunk?

Funny, once again. I love the way you write!

We're talking late 60s early seventies here. Male drunks were quite common but women weren't even served in bars here. They'd drink in 'The Snug', a little annex you'd enter by a side door where you'd be served through a little hatch. My mother was the talk of the town and provided fine ammunition for groups of kids who'd surround you, taunting and jeering , then pushing and pummelling and suddenly you'd find yourself on the ground. I had to learn to reef and scrawb quick smart.

I though I had bad parents. But yours definitely take any cakes I've ever seen. How on earth did you come out so sensible? I guess living so far out of the norm helped quite a bit.

I read a lot of Enid Blyton and made believe I belonged to my aunt and uncle who looked after me at weekends:)

It honestly depends a) on the sexual favour and b) how much they're paying.... No qualms here.

Hahah, that doesn't surprise me. You Aussies are always so pragmatic.

I really admire your strong sense of self-respect! Your stories of standing up for yourself are funny but inspiring, and it's great that you prioritize your dignity :). Very courageous, @deirdyweirdy. Keep being you! 😊💗

I'd rather be a dab hand at making Coco ghosts, but hey, I can't have everything!

Haha! Well, very true we can't have everything, We all have our own unique things, and as long as we’re finding joy in what we do, that’s what really matters. xx

your image in my mind's eye becomes ever more... graphic? but that isn't quite the word. ahahahahha

real people are just so much more interesting than the cookie cutter robocops. how did you make it out of the academy without being programmed like all the other bipeds? will you please tell the world so the next generation can take you as an example?

poor snails though, what did they do to deserve this. you criticize and punch others with your gloves for their mere slimy survival instinct now?

They don't call me deirdy weirdy for nothing! I've always been a bit of an errant and
never owning a TV has helped. As to gastropods, I rehouse them in luxury, a safe distance from my food source.

don't you have a podcast or something? ahahaha

Very clever m'dear, I see what you did there:)
