Today I was having a conversation with one of my colleagues in the office about books. I remembered that I had been paying for audible subscriptions but hardly listened to any books. It has been a few weeks since I listened to any of the books. The discussion was mostly about reading books with the help of a physical or digital book. They said that physical books were the best even though we have several other digital facilities available.
I'm someone who finds it hard to read books. From a very young age, I'm fond of books. I like collecting books but I find it hard to read them or complete reading a book. With a lot of interest, I usually purchase books and spend a lot of money on books but I don't complete reading the book at all. I have noticed my sister reading books with a Kindle or from her mobile. After purchasing an iPad, I find reading books on them very handy but the vote is always for the physical books.
I understand the traditional way of reading books with the help of actual physical books. But other than that it is very hard to say which one is the best way to read books. Today with the help of technology, people grow up with digital devices from a very young age. Sometimes people find digital devices more comfortable than physical books. In many international schools, all the learning happens with the help of digital devices. In the future, this can happen in many places across the world. Who knows after a point people might as well say that books are not good because they are harming the trees and reduce the usage of physical books as we have so many alternatives these days for physical books.
Audiobooks are the next biggest trend. Many people including me are much fond of audio books instead of physical books or digital books. I find it very hard to focus on reading whether it is a physical book or a digital book. I can read as much as I can if it is a short article or a small piece of reading. But when it comes to reading an entire book, it is hard for me. This is where I prefer listening to books than reading. Audibles help me do that where my favorite books are all available in the audio format. Another advantage of this type of reading is that we will be able to do our other tasks while reading. For example, we can drive a car and still listen to the audiobook.

I prefer physical books. Digital books will require me to strain my eyes on the screen which I don’t like so I will go for the physical ones
Paper books for the win!
Physical books have a limitation to how much can we hold and possess and bear them in the long run. Whereas, digital books can be kept thousands of them together and readable using a tech tool.
For avid readers, the second one is choiceless option.

Reading books whether physical or digital increases our knowledge but if we make some time in our daily routine to read books it can be much better for our health and for our brain knowledge. We also get to learn a lot from him.
I still prefer paperbacks though I read digital books a lot. One thing with digital books is the light entering our eyes from the devices that are not good for the eyes. One major advantage of digital books is that you can have a lot of them on your device without having to carry loads of books. Each has its own merits and demerits and I think it all comes down to personal taste. Thanks for writing.
I do like reading too. I always used to read a lot during the holidays, but never had time to read books in between the holidays. At least, that was what I thought.
But after having read a couple of books during my last holiday I decided to continue reading at home too.
And it was just a matter of making choices. I left my Kobo e-reader in the living room and chose not to be on my phone, laptop or watch TV, but read a book. Now I read about one book every week or two.
I like reading on my Kobo since I can read in the dark and I can enlarge the letters (so I don't need my reading glasses 👴). It's also easy to take along. Especially on holidays I can easily take a lot of books with me.
I've tried listening books, but I easily get annoyed by voices of the storytellers.
You call it an advantage, but for a lot of books I find this a disadvantage. When you really want to dive into your book, you really need to take your time for it.
I need to listen quite some webinars and podcasts for my profession (IT Security) which I often do while cycling or doing things in or around the house. But the information doesn't stick very well when you're not 100% focussed on it.
I'm happy that I've chosen to continue reading after the holidays. I think reading (or rather consuming) books is an enrichment.
Technology has certainly changed how we access and enjoy books, making it more accessible for many. Whether it's physical, digital, or audio, what's important is that one finds ways to connect with literature in a way that suits one's taste !
