Sad zoo on Rhodos Deu/Eng

Hallo liebe Community,

Al

Hello dear community,
So that was it for our holiday at Magic Life on Rhodes. Overall, a very nice and relaxing holiday by the pool and on the beach, garnished with a few great excursions such as to Rhodes Town and Lindos. We really had a great hotel, but with a small catch that I don't want to hide from you.

At the very back in a remote part of the hotel there was a "zoo" run by the hotel owner. However, to speak of a zoo here is probably rather inappropriate. I wanted to take a closer look at the whole thing, because every day I heard a donkey braying loudly. So one afternoon I went up and took a closer look.

On barren ground with lots of metal fences there was an area where, let's call it animals, they kept. Unfortunately, the gate was locked, so I could only observe from a distance. There were lots of metal cages in which birds were apparently kept. I could also see some dirty dog kennels and some geese behind another fence. All not really nice to look at.

Right by the gate were the 3 donkeys that you could hear screaming in the hotel and at least had some shade from one or two trees in their enclosure. They tried to find something to graze on on the sandy ground. They didn't look particularly healthy or well-fed to me. The same goes for the few horses in the pen next door.

Overall, it was a rather depressing experience. I don't know if these are the standards for animal husbandry in Greece, but I didn't find it particularly exciting and I felt sorry for the animals.

Best wishes and see you soon, Yours,
Al
