My travel story: Texas, day 8 - Fort Worth

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Hello,

How are you? It has been a while since my last post. I have to admit I am not really active on chain lately. I don’t know the right reason for it, but probably whole situation around the World and life period don’t help me being active on Hive. Anyway, I would like to stay at least somehow connected and not to fall into oblivion after all my hard work building reputation and making connections. Hive will for always be part of my life and I am still visiting site each day and I am happy to read some good travel article, or just to cruise through some great shots captured by some fellow photography lover.

If you would be going back through my posts, you would have noticed that I still owe something to you. And that is exactly this, what I am doing right now. I promised you a post some time ago. I have an unfinished business with untold story from my travel happened one year ago. But not just one year. It was exactly one year ago on this day when I returned to Letališče Jožeta Pučnika in Ljubljana. Not that I would know these dates from my head, but my wife sent me photo of me arriving to the airport and holding my two kids and hugging them. Those were sweet memories that were recalled today. We are spending every day together, but sometimes I have a feeling that missing someone connects you even more. So maybe I miss travel, so I could miss them :)

Well that was very spontaneous intro to my today’s post and return together with closing of my travel story from exactly one year ago to Dallas, Texas. As I already mentioned I owe you the last part of this travel story, so what could be a better day than today.

Last post was day 7 when I was returning from San Antonio, through Austin and experience Dallas at night. Day 7 was probably one of my best day on trip and therefore contains a lot of nice photos worth taking a look (LINK!).

For last day, day 8, I had a lot in plan but it didn’t quite work out as expected. We should have visit Oklahoma to close out our travel and return last day back to Dallas airport directly from there, but that wasn’t the case as my father didn’t feel well. He had some stomach issues and fatigue plus some other painful problems, so we decided not to go there. We had Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge on schedule and one waterfall which name I can’t recall right now. I think this wildlife refuge is a nice thing and would love to visit. Especially since there is a great chance to see Bisons there, in their natural environment. You know how much I love animals, especially exotic, wild animals. Another think that contributed to our decision not to go to Oklahoma was weather. Day earlier there was still like more than 20 degrees Celsius and next day maximum daily temperature forecasted was just like around 5 degrees Celsius. Quite a turn of events, which we are not that used to in this part of Europe that I am coming from. We would need to walk a lot across wildlife refuge park and it wouldn’t be the best experience being there out on cold.

We didn’t really have plan B, but we are fast thinkers, haha. So we decided to go and explore Dallas a bit for the last day on the road. I would really hate it if I would just stay in the hotel for the last day. Well, maybe if it would be some nice 5* resort with SPA… By the way, Dallas doesn’t have any indoor swimming pools or SPA centers like we are used in Europe. I wouldn’t mind relaxing a bit but didn’t find any nice place. Lets get back to what we did, not what we didn’t do, haha. Still early morning we departed to Botanical Gardens which appears to very nice in Dallas. At the moment we arrived, some sheets awaited us all over and around the flowers at the entrance. We looked at them silly and questioned what is happening and short after we found out that it is too cold out there, so they protected about three quarters of the park and it is not on display. Sure we asked if price is reduced as well and you can guess the answer. Pay full, see nothing. So we decided not to visit and continued our journey to Forth Worth. We were there on the first two days of our trip and to end it up as well. We had best meal, or probably second best meal there. In H2 restaurant. It is simply amazing. We ordered a large portion each, so we barely ate everything. But it was that good! Miss Texas BBQ! After delicious lunch, we went to the Fort Worth Zoo, which is one of the best ranked zoos in US. Didn’t know that until I didn’t Google it, haha. I have seen quite a lot of Zoos and I have to say that I had a special feeling at this Fort Worth Zoo. It is very well kept and maintained. Again, we had bad luck with weather as it was too cold for majority of animals. Only few of them were out for display all other were inside, hidden from the public sight. Another think that prevented this Zoo from being really awesome are renovations currently in place. Yes, I was there one year ago, but renovations are still ongoing, I just checked it. They are doing almost half of zoo to be new part. Currently they don’t have big cats, but they are coming back in Summer this year and another “themed land”, I think it is jungle, is coming two years later. When all of this works will be finished, I need to visit again! It will be such an awesome zoo. Already now, animals had really nice exhibits and it was nice to only walkaround. With animals presence and with new additions it will eb a blast, I am sure about that!

Even if our last day was not the most successful, we had a great time. On that day and through whole trip overall. Now when I have my memories about that trip back, I am missing Dallas. Also to watch some basketball which was the main reason for my visit at the first place. And I almost did it again, similar travel this year. To catch 4 home games from Mavs at the end of February, start of March. I didn’t pull the trigger at the end, but… You never know. There is still Slovenian night waiting on fans at the end of season. That is quite tempting. As well as post season, assuming Mavs get there. Recent results are not really encouraging, but I am a believer. I am positive, we will see our team in Westeren conference finals again. Advancing from there? With me in the stands? That is all still optional and TBD. Hopefully I will be back sooner rather than later. And when I will be back, I will have some new material for you guys! Hope you did enjoy my journey this time around and I appreciate all the support received. Thank you for being there and appreciate the engagement too.
Wish you all the best and hopefully, I will post at least a little sooner next time.

Have a great weekend ahead!

Not exactly oblivion @crazy-andy! You have a lot to offer - which means a lot to be missed. I'm also scarce for "life happens" reasons. But what a treat to pop in and see these sublime photos! What a wonderful selection of unique creatures. And those tulips! Love the vibrant colours. Tulips always remind me of my week cycling through Holland, in the height of tulip season

Wow, the pictures are gorgeous, but I have to admit that when I saw the pictures of those (extremely venomous) snakes I didn't feel very comfortable, I don't really like to see snakes in reality or in pictures, hehe.

Wow the photos are amazing, mostly the flower I love it. You service is still needed and important and no one has forgotten you

Tulips and daffodils in texas? Crazy. Well, a bit more and we will have them in full bloom here at home ;) Can't wait

Amazing post and flowers. I have never seen some of those animals in my country before.

Great post, looking forward to more cool post from you :)
