Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo: A Simple and Entertaining Temporary Adventure

in The Anime Realm9 months ago

Hi Hive friends, today I bring you a movie I recently watched with my sister. We agreed to watch it because we both saw a picture on Facebook, and we wanted to distract ourselves a bit from our problems at the time. So we decided to watch "Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo" or as it would be in English the girl who jumps through time.

The movie focuses on the life of Makoto, a student with a careless and carefree personality. It all starts when Makoto meets Chiaki, who is also late for school. When they arrive at the classroom, they realize that the teacher has not yet arrived. Makoto thinks they are lucky, but then the teacher announces a surprise test. Makoto gets a bad grade and various problems befall her throughout the day, such as burning a pot in a cooking class or being accidentally hit by another student.

At the end of the school day, Makoto must take some questionnaires to a lab. As she enters, she witnesses the most important event of the film: she sees a strange nut-shaped object fall and, as she tries to pick it up, she senses that someone is nearby. Surprised, she falls on the object and goes into a trance or time travel. When she wakes up, she finds herself on the floor with the questionnaires. She then tells this to her friends, but they laugh at her. Although she doesn't care, they decide to play baseball together. While riding her bike home, she has to cross some railroad tracks on a downhill slope. She nearly collides with a lady and then realizes that the brakes on her bike are not working. In desperation, she tries to stop herself with her feet, but fails and hits the railing, being thrown into the train. At that moment, Makoto begins to analyze her day and realizes that if she had done something different she would not have died.

We see numbers receding and, after that event, Makoto wakes up and bumps into the lady, thus avoiding her death. She wonders what has happened and her aunt explains that she has traveled back in time, something that happens to girls her age, albeit with a different meaning. Makoto doesn't quite believe it and is left wondering what exactly she did to jump in time. She comes to the conclusion that a big jump can make her travel in time, so she decides to run at high speed and jump into a place by the water. In doing so, she rolls back to her home, confirming that she has succeeded in time travel. This is when we understand why the film is so named, and we will see how this brings about certain consequences.

The movie caught my attention because of the image I saw on Facebook, but it was not what I expected. I found it to be an average movie, mainly to watch it once and that's it. The plot is fairly simple and understandable, as it shows the consequences of time travel, but not in a way that is exaggerated or complicated to understand. I liked that about the film, that it addresses time-related issues in a minimal way. On the other hand, there is not much character development, that is, they are not given much work in that aspect, we are just introduced to them and that's it. Because of that, I didn't feel like I got attached or felt empathy for them. Also, I found it strange that the main character died simply because she had no brakes on the bike, when there were other options like jumping off the bike to avoid the accident. But, anyway, it's a movie. If you like time-travel movies with simpler consequences and a simpler plot, "Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo" is for you.

I watched this movie in the past and I remember enjoying it. However, I don't remember much of the plot anymore and was just reminded through your post. haha Time travel is an interesting concept, isn't it? :)

Yes, time travel is quite interesting, some of it is very complex and hard to understand or you have to look for a youtube video to explain it to you HAHAHAHAJ I think that's why I liked the movie a little bit because time travel is not so complex and rather simple. Thanks for your comment <3

Hahaha.. some people do watch explanations on YouTube. But I guess, when it comes to "time travel", I liked "Boku dake ga Inai Machi" aka ERASED. :)

Time travel is difficult to handle and this movie has done it very well. I watched it a couple of years ago and I loved it, it's worth watching and although for some (like me haha) it can be difficult to understand, then everything makes sense and the truth is very interesting.

If that is something that I liked to see that they did not complicate things very complex or very elaborate in the consequences that can have the time management for example here is observed as she does not burn the pot affects aotro partner and how this is then harassed by others to burn it, so simple are the consequences. If later everything makes sense also not giving much mystery or much depth in the subject but all that part I felt more direct so to speak. Thanks for your comment <3

The storyline of the movie catches my attention, can you tell me on which Streaming platform it is available?

I think it's on neflix and disney plus. Thanks for your comment <3

I love animes which are related to time travel! I have watched this anime and it was soo good I have enjoyed it a lot the twist is when she is not the only one traveler 😅.

Thanks great post got my mesmerising memories back.

Yeah and when you find out who it is you are shocked, you don't really expect there to be another time traveler but I was hoping that the one with the walnut shaped device was the one from the future but sadly it wasn't so, it's still interesting. One thing that I didn't see much sense in it is that said time traveler told her to look for him/her in the future, when in the movie they don't give you a hint of how far in the future is that they created that artifact. Thanks for your comment <3

Ok?

Ok? I must say that was pretty weird hahahahahaha, the plot of the movie caught my attention and just by looking at the poster I already imagined that the main character is quite carefree

What was it that seemed weird to you? hahahahahah, if the movie catches your attention then it's simpler than you think and I think that's what I liked because when they put time travel they complicate things too much or elaborate them too much. If from the beginning of the movie just by seeing the prota you know what personality she has AHAHHAHH. Thanks for your comment <3
