I'm joining another round of #WednesdayWalk initiative by @tattoodjay and this post will talk about how my Wednesday went.
Usually on gloomy days I just stay at home, watch something and be online. But this Wednesday night I'm meeting my friends so even when the weather forecast is not so favorable, I need to go out so I have something to share today.
Tonight we're having dinner at Okubo (大久保) and this place is famous for being the Korean Town of Tokyo. I'll be talking about the dinner and more about Korean Town in a separate post so this one will only highlight the walk after we had dinner.
Because the Korean Town is just a few minutes walk from the busy streets of Shinjuku, I told my friends to walk going there so we can also save the train fee and I have something to post. The place where we had dinner is so very near their train station, which actually surprised them because they didn't know. So now, I'm left alone to walk to my train station.
In Shinjuku, there are so many train stations and mine is still few minutes away. So I got to enjoy my alone time walking and inhaling all the weekday vibes from the busy nights in Shinjuku.
I passed by a road construction and well, I got distracted by the thing at the top. 😅
Mind you, I've seen some road constructions before but this is my first time seeing the floating thing. 😅 Well, I think it helps because even I noticed it.
Because the area I was passing by is full of road construction and is kinda not so lively, I decided to enter the tip of the busy area of the Red Light District of Tokyo, Kabukicho. Tip only because I didn't want to go deep inside Kabukicho at this time of the night.
I reached the lively part of Kabukicho, the decent area. I only took snaps of the place to see its status on a Wednesday night compared to the Friday and Saturday nights.
So after entering from the side, I'll now be exiting. That was just a quick detour in the other side of Kabukicho. 😅 Not a lot of people, as expected since it's still Wednesday night. Still, in the streets, there were ladies dressed in cute outfits looking for customers to come to their girls' bar or men looking for customers to come to their bar/pub/karaoke place. No drunk people lying down on the streets tonight. 😅
Crossing the street would mean leaving the Red Light District and going to my train station. Since it's almost 11PM, a lot of shops were closed. But the game center, the building where you can see the word Game, I think is still open.
My train line is a subway so it's located underground this another busy area of Shinjuku. I've been here last night too but on the other end of the last photo and even when it's raining, there were more people than today.
That pretty sums up my Wednesday night.
Glad it didn't rain tonight even when it's gloomy.
Thanks for reading!
See you around! じゃあ、またね!
All photos are taken using my phone unless stated otherwise.
If Im also in Japan, I think every noght I will be in the street wondering this beautiful city. Ka nice gyud.
I think later on, mapul-an na ka ug lakaw2x 😂
But you're right, it's really a beautiful city.

Tokyo looks so cool. I recently played a video game called Ghostwire Tokyo. Although the game itself was kind of boring, it was a realistic (and spooky) recreation of Tokyo, which allowed me to explore the city in depth for the first time.
I had to quickly google what the game is about. It just released this year, makes sense why I haven't heard of it. This year I was only playing Elden Ring and not bothering to check on latest games. 😂
Tokyo is really cool, funky and lively. I wonder if the game showed this side of Tokyo as well. Might have to explore the game.
It’s honestly not worth paying much for, I preordered it and got it for a reduced price of $50 and I still think it wasn’t worth it. It’s a $20 game maximum. Very repetitive, but my goodness does it look good and the overall vibe is just too cool. In the game, all of the citizens have disappeared and there is nothing left but evil spirits and some talking cats/dogs.
Okay, now I get the spooky part. 😅
Hmm, then I guess I won't be buying it because it's expensive for its actual worth. I'm still curious so maybe I'll check videos about it.
Videos should be enough. Don’t let it fool you into looking super fun like it did me. It was for shout and hour and then it was the same thing over and over.

It’s the city life 🥳
Glad to see you here, thanks for visiting @th4488
Yep, rainy dark days does keep us all in. But still great to get out and about @wittyzell
Thanks for sharing your walk through the streets. The street life of people going somewhere. 😎
Very cool. Thanks for sharing with us.
Have a wonderful day today 👋🏻😁
Some people like rainy days but I’ve always been not a fan. I don’t wanna get wet. 😅
There were a few showers here and there but no rain when I walked so I felt lucky. I didn’t have an umbrella with me so I was hoping that it won’t rain.
Actually it felt good that I went out because it was cold.
Me neither, I always say I’m made from sugar and melt in the rain hehehehe 🤣😂🤣
Oh I like the crispy fresh days though…
Yes, luckily it didn’t rain when you had no umbrella ☂ with you.
Sugar and melt 😂 Nice way to describe yourself. 😂😂
It's funny, that's what they say here, too.)
I thought so… it is something parents would say to their children in the Netherlands when they didn’t want to go out hehehe 🤣😂
Really?! So it's a popular saying in Netherlands 😅 What a surprise! It means many people are made with sugar and melt in the rain hahaha
It is hahaha 🤣 lol so funny what children do believe when they are very young.
And it does rain a lot there… one of the reasons I moved away.
Hello @wittyzell
This seems like a perfect walk around a spectacular city. It's an amazing place from what I recall and your photos do give a realistic view of the city.
It would be interesting to hear how long that road construction goes. It might be a rumor, but I've heard that the Japanese are record fast in carrying out road works and then to do it overnight 😁
For me, any weather is great for roaming around Shinjuku, and it almost seems like a part of the tradition to see ladies carrying those doom shape clear umbrellas:)
The Shinjuku lights make the photos so nice to look at 😅
I’m not sure about this kind of road construction because it seems like it’s a big one. But I’ve seen some other construction work at night and they finish before morning comes. 😅
The umbrellas here are usually clear so you could see the sky.. Sold everywhere. Some ladies usually have the girly umbrellas to protect their skin from the sunlight.
Yes, my Airbnb in Shinjuku had 4 of those umbrellas for tenants to use. Here's a pic of me and my husband (Black and white) with 2 of the umbrellas on a stroll in Okubo... not an amazing pic, but it's sentimental to me as a big part of my Tokyo experience:)
Great times! 😍
Enjoying your time with those clear umbrellas, I guess it rained when you were here? 😅
Seeing these night photos of Shinjuku, I remember one of my greatest experiences in Tokyo back in 2018. We took the last subway in the evening from Shibuya all the way to the Tokyo Skytree and then walked back to Shibuya and more specifically the youth Olympic center. On the way back we visited many sights like Tokyo tower, Tokyo station and the imperial palace. It was the best experience ever. We ended with like 35 kilometers of walking distance. 😁
Thank you for taking me back to Tokyo.
That was such a very long walk! 😂
Glad you all survived.
But then again if you're with friends, usually you won't mind the distance you have walked because you'll be entertained with the company.
Wonder if you walked during winter? Too cold! And during summer, too hot. 😅
Our walk was in September. So it was pleasant walk, although we got back at our hotel 5:30 in the morning and we had to wake up at 7 o’clock to take our daily tasks. And then we had to walk again. 😂
We walked like the whole Tokyo for 3 days.
I'm not sure if that is called sleep. 😂
Fun times you had! But I could not imagine myself doing the same fun as you did, walking Tokyo for 3 days 😂
Well, given the fact that we were there only for three days, we wanted to see as much as we can. Of course after that we slept all the long flight from Tokyo to Munich. 😁
Making the most of it, right? 😅
Well, it's not all the time you'll be in Tokyo so it's good you all went to a lot of places.
But you all could have at least rented a bicycle or something. Walking is too tiring hahaha
Absolutely, making the most of it.
Actually most of us didn’t have much money left for spending on bicycles rent, so I guess the walking was our only choice. After all it is now a memory for life. 🤣
the first photo I didnt picture in my mind as Tokyo, but the following shots with all the neon lights and busy streets was more i was imagining
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
It was a random alley while looking for a good place to eat.
Not a lot of people knows about the alley, that's why there are no neon lights
Thanks also for this initiative!
it made a could contrast in this post
Have a Terrific Thursday :)
I just realized it did.
You too, have a great day!
Cheers
👍😎👍
I love the lights, ate.
Typical night lights in the busy area of Tokyo 😄
Very pretty, ate. It's like Las Vegas.
I haven't been to Las Vegas but I can imagine it from the movies. 😅
So many lights there too, ate.
Nice, on of the modern cities in Japan with modern buildings and transportation is connected to various destinations. I've been to Shinjuku city a few years ago. Thank you.
I realized I blogged about Shinjuku a lot because there's just too much to see in this place. 😅
It's also one of the most complicated train stations. You'll get lost if you're not used to it.
I wouldn't have thought that it's 11 p.m. It's as busy as day it seems. I do like the buildings especially the black ones on the third and fourth photos I think and again on Kabukicho. That construction mascot(?) looks cute :D
This part of Tokyo is really busy, you won't notice the time. 😅
Ah, no wonder. It must be exhausting to live there lol!
If you're very near these busy areas, it is really exhausting. 😅
Most people live far from the busy areas so it's fine.
The city is not for everybody just like me lol!
Absolutely stunning photos of Tokyo areas @wittyzell!
My sister-in-law was born and raised in Tokyo, and had never left until married met my brother.
I didn't know about the red-light district though hahahahaha!!!
That "float" unit looks like the gas lights that are truck mounted for night work, they can power those up so strong that the immediate area looks like daylight. I've worked with some of them, as I did roadwork for 28 years and have used those in the mountains to remove downed trees or down across electrical lines (fairly common). Super cool lights. That low-sided truck in front of the light unit looks like it may be a "patch truck", which is basically one that carries material to patch the roadway with.
So, I see 7-11, where's the nearest Starbucks? hahahahahaha!!!
I learned something today, thanks for this information @jamerussell!
Working for 28 years, wow that's a lot of years.
Is your sister in law Japanese? Or not?
I would also want to be raised in Japan myself so I can be fluent in the language, but well, it's fine being raised in my home country. 😅
The Starbucks, well, it's not here in this area but there's a lot of Starbucks in Shinjuku. 😂 Actually a lot of Starbucks in Japan.
Yes, she's a native Japanese lady @wittyzell. She's been living here for something around 10 or 12 years, not positive, but before that she had never been out of Tokyo.
I'm surprised you replied with this account 😅
Ohhhh! She must be used to speaking in english now.
That's nice. Recently I noticed more and more Japanese women want to marry foreigners. 😅
Interesting travelogue and expose of the area @wittyzell
I envy you. My niece is a "Speech Pathologist" who had a great job working for the American Military, and had been in Japan for many years, but they decided they wanted to come home for the birth of this latest child.
Her mother is a realtor, and together they had picked out and bought a home in our hometown, so they just came on back home with little fuss.
↑Upvoted↑and←Reblogged→
I hope you could also come to Japan one day @jerrytsuseer.
Maybe together with your niece and the whole family.
If only they have a place to stay in Japan and not move back to your hometown, would have been easy for you to visit them and have a vacation here.
But! It's still wonderful that they are living there.
It's nice if relatives aren't too far.
You can just easily gather and have a party. 😅
My niece (actually my Eldest Nephew's Daughter, so I guess that makes her my Grand Niece?) Has been moved back for over a month, the new baby was born last week.
The largest part of my family live in my hometown, which is about a 3 hour drive south of here.
Perhaps one day, I'll be able to make it over there.
Wow, congrats! Newborn is such a joy!
Yes, I hope you can one day visit this place.
I missed your post again.) And it is 🔥 as usual.
Well, by the way, I would have a look at your subway.)
