It was so cool to see how the colours changed in a short time. We arrived at the parking plot between two little churches in the late afternoon but there was still an hour until Mister Sun had to depart. The sky was still so blue and matching the colour of the dome of San Bonifácio hermitage. {Well, the Spanish word is "ermita" which would be hermitage, but I would say it is a small church} Regardless of the name, hermitage or church, seems that it is a popular spot to come and take a walk. The little parking plot was full, but we had luck and found one place. From here we started our short walk, toward the other church, the old centre and a castle.
The rocky formation you see in the background is called Cid. There is a story that mentions a knight who saw himself threatened by the Muslims at the top of the Sierra del Caballo mountain. According to the legend he spurred his horse and launched himself in an impossible leap into the void and landed many kilometres from the mountain. The horse hit the rock with one of his hooves so hard that his footprint was stamped there forever. I don't know more about this legend I saw here, but a legend or not, it has an interesting shape.
From here we climbed a small path, still seeing the dome of San Bonifácio church but the position of the sun gave a different colour to the photo.
Just turning to the other side, we faced the next church, the hermitage of Holy Christ. I suppose that it was built in 1674, as the year indicates at the top of the front entrance. It was closed, but there is a small hole in the door. You can see the interior of the church through it. My friend who took me on this walk said that they come here to pray when someone is ill in the family.
When I thought that this was the end of the route and nothing was behind this little church, a new idea was proposed to me. Come, we are going to the city centre and the castle. The street that leads to it was behind the hermitage. We had to descend a few stairs and steep streets and indeed, we found ourselves in the narrow streets of this town. The type of architecture was nothing different from the other villages of this region, so it didn't catch my attention, but one wall yes.
It was a wall with several murals on it. But I will not describe them, as I want to make a small guessing game. For so long time I didn't do any of these games, but I think it is time to bring it back on this occasion. So, my question is what connects all these paintings and why? A small reward will fly to the wallet of the user who brings the correct answer first.
From the narrow streets and this mural, we found the path that was leading to the castle. Unfortunately, it was already closed, so we could see just the exterior of it.
Maybe it is not really interesting to see just the exterior walls... But the only way to enter is to go on a guided tour, which we missed as it lasts for 3 hours. We didn't have that much time. However, being there on that little square outside of the castle was rewarding too, as we could observe the town, the mountains, the sunset and even a cute pigeon came close to us. His wings were painted in several colours. There were two of them, the other was black but also with colourful wings. I took the photo just of this one.
The sun was setting slowly and we decided to go back to the car and later drive home. The short walk gave different things to see - a few small churches, the castle, the pigeon, the painted wall (don't forget to try to give an answer - what connects all those paintings on the wall and why ;) ) and the sunset.
The church was now illuminated by the lamps and not by the sun. The colour of the sky also changed, covering itself with a darker blanket, ready to bring the nighttime to the citizens of this inland Spanish town, Petrel.
Oh woman what a wonderful day! First littlebee4 takes me for a walk in her cottage in a cold but inspiring place in Scotland, the views are spectacular and it makes me want to touch and feel the snow. Then comes my dear @mipiano and takes me to visit I think the highest place in Petrer or Petrel, a place with a lot of history. I think that at some point the whole town was almost empty after the expulsion of the Moors. Well I like to see how the interweaving of cultures is present in their buildings. I have to say that I adored your photographs. And especially how you play with the brevity of the walk and the changing colours of the sky. I also like the detail of the pigeons. Here I fell silent... And I stayed next to her for a while looking at the landscape. Another significant moment was to stop and compare the two photos of the church. What I find sublime here is the way you narrate what you perceive as you go along until you stop at very specific details that -personally- I consider very special. But come on... We have to get to the point: the riddle. I just like riddles... The murals are very beautiful and I could tell you that by dealing with shoes, with their loose laces, they invite you to take off your shoes, an expression of freedom, an alert to connect healthily with the Earth and its energies... However, I also think that the allusion to shoes especially in Petrel is because that conurbation, Elda-Petrel, is widely known for its influence on footwear at a regional level. In Petrel alone, the footwear industry represents 45% of the total local productive activities, I don't know if I am using updated data. So... those murals have in common the history and the economy of that town.
He disfrutado mucho este paseo. Gracias.
I think I have the urge to shout a loud WOW for your detailed research and answer 🙌🙌
You indeed did the excellent and proper research and brought here the best possible answer!!! All explained, what and why! Shoes and the importance of the footwear industry in this town are shown there and that is what I was thinking when I asked the question. Congratulation :))
Your HP increased a bit just right now :))
And thank you muchísimo for coming with us on this walk, and observing the landscape with the pigeon. My photos can't be really compared to those who are professionals here :P though I try to compensate by making some composition that the post would have, not always achieving it nicely, but ok, the intentions are here haha.
Oh, today is the day to receive awards.... 3rd place in the Hispanic PUD and now this one that fills me with great joy. Thanks for making my minnow account stronger.
Kiss
PD. The photos... it's not the technique dear. It's what they talk about.
I'm sure we are having the winner here (@nanixxx), therefore I'll skip that competitive part and keep staring at that colored pigeon (born that way?)
You got some gold and blue hours here and that's the most amazing time for observing the sky 😍
You are right, we got the winner who absolutely rocked with her detailed answer!! 🙌
But hey... I didn't mean for anyone to be mute on the riddle part. Sometimes the right answer is too simple. I belong to the camp of the complicated ones it seems hahaha.
No, no, no, your answer just seem to me to be right when I scroll back to the photos. (that was my wild guess only)
Actually I got a lots info I had no idea about from your answer. :D
About the colours on the pigeon, the wings are painted :))
Recently, I read somewhere that they dyed pigeons for the baby's gender reveal ceremony, I hoped he was born that way, papa parrot :D
The sky photography almost gone without clouds at the end. I just know some information about Cid from you, the art for him creating on the mountains like this really suit with the sky at the back.
Many art to see on the wall. And last but not least I can't go without admiring the beauty of each church building and castle.
Thanks @ahleap , these little churches and the castle were nice indeed. Maybe I should visit it once again and participate in that guided tour... then I could see the interior of the castle :))
Such a lovely walk @mipiano 👋🏻😊 the views and changing light is stunning.
Ok, let’s guess…
The shoes… they leave a footprint too, like the hooves of the horse from the legend. 🤓😉
Thanks for sharing your lovely captures 👋🏻☀️
Have a great evening!
Ow, indeed a cool connection with shoes... they are leaving footprints 👣👣👣
But the answer was given, and it was absolutely right, that it's because of the footwear industry in that town. :)
Thanks for stopping by always Jackie, have a a great evening you too ❄️❄️❄️😊
I didn’t do a research, so thought this could be it hahaha 🤣 nope…
I saw, great comment too. 🤓😎
You are welcome @mipiano have a lovely Thursday! 👋🏻☀️

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
Yep, and when the sun was setting, it all changed quickly. Thanks ;)
Funny to see we both visited churches in our last posts :)
Really? Oh, I saw it now, the churches you visited are of one millennium :)
I have more coming up pretty soon. Have a nice day!
You had a short but nice walk. The rocky formation, the city and the church are beautiful. And I'm impressed with the beautiful murals on the wall.
Thanks @dodovietnam a lot for stopping by, it was indeed just a short walk but we have to get the positive side of the things and enjoy them. A sunset, a pigeon, a walk... everything counts ;)
SNEAKERS! 👟👟👟👟
Great #wednesdaywalk btw beautiful photos and that pigeon! I've never seen anything like it 😍
Hahah, yeah, it would be almost the answer :)
It was the importance of the shoe industry in this town, someone made a great research on this and became the winner. But thanks for playing and for your comment ☺️
We called the small church ermita too!
Murals were all about different types of shoes.
I spotted a cute and colorful bird.
Yeah, I think there are many Spanish words in your language too.
Shoes - yes, it was the part of the answer, but Nanixxx gave a complete and detailed answer and became the absolute winner :)
Hehe better luck next time for me!
