Hive Uk Meet-Up: Halifax Saturday June 18th 2022

in TeamUK2 years ago

Hive Meet Up Title.pngDesign created using a picture I took of Halifax's Piece Hall in 2019. It's 4k - try zooming in on the Hive Union Jack flying for the event.

The UK event of the season - the ultimate coffee-fueled extraordinary meet-up - hosted at White Rose professional Coffee roastery by @c0ff33a witness, and organised by @shanibeer is rapidly approaching.

If you live anywhere in the UK and fancy a road trip, this could be a lovely day out or long weekend and a great excuse to meet up with some of the people behind the usernames.

Maybe one or two mysterious anons (I've been trying and failing miserably to be more anon online) lurking around the muffin stand could turn out to be a witness or whale... imagine witnessing a whale witness a witness witnessing a whale!

This is the type of thing that can happen at these events, as I can attest to when I watched a partial standoff between two anon whales at SF3 in Krakow. The wiggling of eyebrows and secret handshakes were something to behold until they realized they were safe from being mobbed by a school of minnows and started the business of... planning to take over the blockchain world.

untitled.gif

When they noticed my keen observation with a raised eyebrow and a backhanded finger wiggle they beckoned me forward to bow and offer up my community proposal. But before I get into full comic making-up-a-pile-nonsense mode, let's actually get down to the real details.

Hive Halifax UK Meet-up Details

This will be a casual event running from 12 midday until 5 pm, and there will be some food laid on and I would guess the chance to sample some excellent coffee. I really can attest to how good White Rose Coffee is as I order their 1kg bag of Hive Blockchain coffee on a regular basis, and ended up buying a grinder and becoming a bit of a coffee nut (excuse the terrible and inaccurate pun).

I am reliably informed that there are 14 people booked for the Halifax meet-up so far, and two more maybes, so already quite a crowd for a local meet-up. To help @shanibeer organise the food and have an idea of numbers she has set up an...

where people need to register their attendance. Tickets are free, and if you are travelling by train the event location is only a 15-minute walk from the station according to Google maps... and you know what they say (they being me), always trust Daddy Google!

Google maps.png

I will probably buy a day ticket as I discovered it is only 2 hours with one change in Manchester for me to get to Halifax, but for those thinking of making a mini-break or a long weekend away, I have visited the area before and can thoroughly recommend a few places.

Recommedations for a Long Weekend

Firstly, I would be amiss not to mention the very impressive tourist attraction at the heart of Halifax city centre, The Piece Hall which dates from 1779, when it was first built as a cloth trading hall. But I don't want to turn this into a full-on travel post and spoil the surprise.

I'll just mention that it is now lined with artisan type shops and there is a free fascinating museum if you're a history buff like me. I'm thinking of getting an early train just to hang around the centre of Halifax and the The Piece Hall before the main meet-up.

Panorama Best.jpgPanaroma of the piece hall I took in 2019 when travelling in the area.

Halifax is a nice town with many restaurants and bars etc if you're staying there, but when I visited it was only for a day as I was staying just down the road at Hebden Bridge. A place which is a bit of a Hippie Mecca, and also surrounded by beautiful countryside.

I will share a few select pictures here, but to read more about attractions around the area check out the travel posts I'll link below which go into far more detail.

To read much more about this beautiful ancient hilltop village, and read some poetry, check out my post linked below the title image.

Heptonstall - Cobblestones, Churches and Sylvia Plath's Grave

The whole area around this part of Yorkshire is a Hiker's paradise, which if there was a Yorkshire version of Collio I'm sure he would have written a wrap about this place I discovered 😂

20190825_133214.jpgA picture of Stoodly Pike which stands on the moors above Hebden Bridge.

This is a beautiful, and quite a long, hike if you get the bus up to near the reservoir and then walk all the way back to Hebden Bridge but well worth it on a sunny day because you get to experience so many environments, from the high moors to small woodlands and then finally along the canal on the way back. But again, I shall not share all the details but direct you to a full walkers guide I wrote for this hike back in 2019.

So, I shall sign off here with those recommendations for anyone who is staying for more than a day to consider, and I'll look forward to meeting up with some hive folks on the day of the event.

All the best, and thanks for reading 🙂🌿

Awesome shmoogleosukami.

It makes me change my daft word play...

imagine witnessing a witness witnessing a witness... can I get a testify!

😉

Look forward to meeting you and learning what it actually takes to run a hive node, and just generally talk hive talk 👍

Thanks for checking out my post.
I've just checked, and I'm already voting your witness on hive 🙂

Thank you for the shout out 😍

I got in a muddle with the witnesses witnessing ... 😱

We have sixteen bookings now plus a couple of not-quite-sure-yets so this maybe one of the largest gatherings in the UK so far.

Look forward to seeing you there!

I got in a muddle with the witnesses witnessing ...

lol that was just my TRYING to be funny. I am looking forward to witnessing a witness witnessing me drink some of their excellent coffee @c0ff33a
I was just adding a little lightheartedness (and farcical wordplay) to the proceedings. Really I'm looking forward most to just meeting new people, and people I've known for ages like @slobberchops who I completely should have met given I'm a scouser and he's been to Liverpool on many occasions jumping walls and breaking into sry Urbexing into buildings around my kneck of the woods. I could have helped if my back wasn't buggered and knees knackered etc as all scousers are born with the ability to Urbex, apparently 🤣

In all seriousness 16 is great, and I saw @livinguktaiwan post and thought she might have brought a few more people to the party, and also thought a little about her in making my recommendations for some places to check out in the area as she said she was making a trip of it.

Anyway, must dash to the allotment to do some work and water my baba tomatoes before the big kick-off football stuff tonight.

Thanks for the recommendations, my first visit to the area, so it will be useful

I really liked it when I visited last time - much higher than Leicester and fresh. I loved the countryside, the vertical hills, not so much 😍. The canal was great, though, flat and lots to see.

You're welcome @livinguktaiwan

Sry I'm late to respond. Some IRL things have kept me away from the computer the last two days until now.

Yes, there are a lot of things to do around that area, if you're quite healthy that walk I suggested is amazing, but especially on a summer day.

But as Shani said below, the canal is a really chill and beautiful walk if you want something more relaxing. The trains from Halifax station basically cut right through the peak district and we found them fast and reliable 🙂 and the best way to hop from town to village areas etc.

I hope you enjoy the trip, and I'll see you on the day of the event unless I'm too sick to travel (I have a chronic illness that can take me out), but I'll know 10 days before the event and it is only £40 return on the train for me coming from the Northwest of England 🙂

It was funny 😂
Hope you had a great evening 😍

Hive Power Up Day - June 1st 2022
Support the HiveBuzz project. Vote for our proposal!

Our coffee is running short so will be picking some up while there! I generally order it mail order.

I generally order it mail order.

Me too mate. I'm currently waiting on an order to arrive so I don't have to keep drinking these inferior Aldi expresso coffee beans 😂

But it will be good to pick up a few bags from the source 👍

Dear @raj808, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got an important support from the community. However, it lost its funding few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency,

Hive.blog / https://wallet.hive.blog/proposals
or using HiveSigner.

Your support would be really helpful and you could make the difference! Thank you!

Very good would love to come but have a friend's birthday that evening. Typical

Hi @vibeof100monkeys

How are you keeping? I remember listening to podcast posts from you and reading some of your blogs ages ago back in the steem days lol

I really should check my feed more often as I didn't realize you were still around.

Shame you can't make the event, but I get it completely. IRL friend's birthday would be higher on my priorities as well.

All the best m8 🙂

I had a bit of time off. Trying to make sense of it all. But back here now grumbling and trying to find my tribe in all the madness 😂.

It's definitely up for a meetup, so let me know when the next one is.

Sending reiki vibes your way 🙏🏽

Hope you all have a blast!

!PIZZA

Ha ha, well I guess it is a little bit of mission for you @generikat

Maybe you'll make it to hivefest meet-up if Roleandp manages to organise it this year... but I'm afraid he's saying Europe for this one.

Thanks for checking out the post. It is a lovely area to visit if you're ever over in the UK for a holiday in the future 🙂

I'm seriously considering wandering over for Hivefest if it materializes. I was supposed to make it to Europe (finally lol) in 2020, but ya know how that went. We shall see....

My UK grand tour is definitely going to be a thing someday too, so a Halifax visit is on the list.

Hope you all have a great time!😊

Yeah, I reckon it will be a lot of fun.

thanks! I hope to get over to the UK sometime this year but wont catch the meetup.

I hope there will be plenty of posts about it though 🙂

Thanks for sharing, @raj808!

Ben and I are looking forward to meeting you there.

Hi @planetauto

Sry I didn't get back to you earlier. I ended up missing the meet-up as I'd double-booked, and forgotten that I had promised to show a friend and his family around a free festival here in Liverpool that Saturday.

I saw from your blog that your car let you down and you couldn't make it either... best laid plans of mice and men and all that 😂

At least the sun is shining. All the best 🌞

oh dear, yes not great, the challenges with garages, typically returned on the Monday with an MOT, oh well - they'll hopefully be some more
