Hey gardening friends! Here I am with an August update for the community Garden in the courtyard of my building.
Everything is still going strong in my little box; the pumpkin leaves are HUGE now and I've got a few blooms on them.
The clover keeps being shaded out by the giant pumpkin leaves, and I keep trying to train them over in another direction. Hopefully as they get a bit longer this sticks and the clover has more sun without me having to push leaves out of the way every time I go water.
The turnips are starting to show! :D
And my tomato plants are pretty tall now, but no blooms yet. I planted black krim, I think, but I'd have to double check my packets.
Here is my happy garden box:
I also just deadheaded some blooms on my night sky flowers on the balcony yesterday, and I finally have some mint out there!
So there's the update about how things are growing this August. Happy Lughnassadh, everyone! :)
What an awesome way to use a communal shared space. Your box seems to be doing very well.
Is it okay to have more than one box?
I can imagine the community members engaging over what to grow and the progress being made.
I had thought that there were so many gardeners and not enough boxes, but that one that is by itself in the other section I think is overgrown with an invasive species and not being used. I'm going to ask the super about it next time. If that's the case, I would have gardened two!
Nice.😎
Happy gardening bro.
If I'm not mistaken, yours looks the messiest! Three cheers to you for that!
Ha ha, mine might be! The one right next to me has whatever type of squash that is spilling over trying to get in my tomatoes' space, but generally yeah I think most people have "here is my neat plant, and it's surrounded by dirt" and mine is like BOOM plants. xD
Wow, that's a well-utilized space, glad to see your building using the courtyard as a community garden. How did you subdivide the space? Are there many active gardeners in your building?
Each one of the little wooden boxes belongs to a different gardener. The planters and pots I think people just added to the area for extra space to grow things. A couple who have been in the building for a long time like me tend to an area the size of the whole community garden space where they mostly grow flowers, and the building super tends to another plot by the front door where she also grows decorative plants. :)
A collaborative effort in gardening definitely brings joy in your building and social aspects as well since I'm sure you get to interact with the super and neighbors too in the process. It's inspiring, I hope many more buildings emulate this set up.
Yes! I've even had a neighbor who didn't garden herself say that she appreciated seeing everyone's gardens. :)
That's lovely 😊 happy gardening and happy weekend to you!
To you as well!
Wow, the community garden is beautiful and it made the place look so peaceful too.
The turnips looks small and fine, lol. I love that purple flower, it's beautiful, I have a similar one but not from a garden.
They're called Starry Night petunias, though the pattern is different on each one, some are more solid, some more stripey, and some more starry. :)
Wow, this is so beautiful, those touches of white just makes it really starry 😍😍.

Your vegetables are all growing very well. Soon you will be harvesting them.
Fingers crossed! :)
Great update. Lots of growth there. Is it too late for tomatoes or they come soon?
No I think they'll come soon. Our cold weather stuck around pretty late this year, we skipped spring rains and tornado season for the most part, and went right into hot, dry summer weather. I've harvested before into late fall, so I think that's what will happen this year too. :)
That's a great courtyard setup.
It's so nice! We only started last year.
