Governments all want to spy one their citizens. How else are they going to exert their control over what they do and think? That it the ultimate goal, for them to have absolute control, and that is what is truly alarming. It's not just the EU, the US tried the same thing under the Patriot Act which need to be repealed. Governments will never try to control the growth of their power, only take more of it!
