My Saddest Pancit Canton Ever!

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY8 days ago

Good morning and happy weekend! I hope everyone has already done their errands and chores and just relaxing before we begin another week. Lately, I've realized a lot of things like my eyes were finally opening. Wish I had this realization several years ago. I'd like to reprimand myself for the wrong choices but we can't change the past. We only have the present and the future. Anyway...

DTI would probably give me a nod with this recipe I'm sharing today because it's surely less than Php 500. Lol. However, it's a sad recipe because I only had two vegetables in it.

Pancit Canton

Pancit Canton is a stir-fry noodle with soy sauce as its base flavor. One can choose what vegetables and meat to add in the noodles but the classic pancit canton usually has carrots, cabbage, snow peas/snap peas, parsley, squid balls, and meat like pork or chicken, or shrimp.

This type of noodle recipe is a staple on Filipino occasions like birthdays, fiestas, all saints' day, etc. People sometimes eat it too as a merienda (snack). This stir-fry noodle recipe tastes best when you squeeze some lime on it.

I think the last time I cooked one was still back in 2022. It's very easy to make especially with my recipe this time because I only added few toppings. It's not that I'm trying to limit the ingredients! The grocery I've gone to just didn't have all the ingredients I needed. I also didn't go to the wet market for more vegetable optoin so I have to make do with what I have. Okay, let's begin cooking!

📝 Here's What You'll Need

  • 250g flour sticks (pancit canton noodles)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups cabbage (sliced)
  • 2 small carrots (julienne)
  • squid balls
  • 1 cup chicken breast fillet (sliced to bite size)
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 chicken bouillon
  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp. sesame oil
  • pinch of salt
  • dash of ground black pepper
  • cooking oil

👩🏻‍🍳 Let's Cook!!!

1️⃣ First step is to blanch the vegetables (carrots and cabbage). Boil 2 cups of water then while it's boiling, add the vegetables and let it boil for 1 minute. Then transfer it to a cold water and submerge it for around 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.

2️⃣ Then fry some pieces of squid balls. Set aside.

3️⃣ Then on a pot, add some cooking oil and saute the chicken meat. Set aside.

4️⃣ On the same pot which has the cooking oil and chicken juices, saute the onion and garlic. When it becomes aromatic or when the onion becomes glossy and begins to disintegrate, proceed with the next step.

5️⃣ Put back the chicken bits and add the soy sauce and oyster sauce. Don't forget to mix so it gets evenly distributed with the chicken meat.

6️⃣ Then we add the water next. Bring to a boil.

7️⃣ Add the chicken bouillon next. Stir until the bouillon has dissolved. You can add some salt and pepper after.

8️⃣ Then to make the food smell fragrant, we add some sesame oil.

9️⃣ Add the noodles next. Press the noodles gently and mix until the noodles have absorbed the sauce and have become soft.

🔟 And finally we add the vegetables and squid balls. Mix until all ingredients are evely distributed. Leave some for toppings later on. You can also slice the squid balls in half before adding it to the noodles.

1️⃣1️⃣ Continue mixing until the sauce has been completely absorbed by the noodles. Then transfer to a bowl or any container and put the remaining vegetables and squid balls on top .

Serve and enjoy!

✨️ A Filipino Classic Noodle Recipe!

Pancit Canton is by far one of the easiest noodle recipes to make. It's so versatile that it belongs to various kinds of celebration or occasion.

This one I made tasted a bit salty but I already adjusted the measurement of water on this post to lessen its saltiness. And surprisuingly, it turned out looking plenty despite lacking some ingredients. Overall, it still tasted delicious but I believe it would taste even better when I added more water to lessen the saltiness. Well, that's all!

What are your favorite pancit canton toppings aside from cabbage, carrots, and chicken or pork meat?
