No matter how good the story is, if the gaming experience is bad, there's no way you will consider it a great game.

I disagree. There are games like The Stanley Parable that are great. And the Stanley parable is just a walking simulator. But The Stanley Parable is something different then the standard games, because it has more of a philosophical approce.
