Start Your Farming Journey With dCrops

Did you know that you can play games in Hive?! (Okay maybe most of you know already!)

Interested in starting your farming journey in Hive?
Have you heard about dCrops yet?

A lot of questions (I know!) but these are some of my introduction questions to my friends who don't know about dCrops yet.

What is dCrops anyway?

dCrops is a P2E game on the Hive blockchain where you will be in control of your own farm like a virtual farmer. Recently there have been updates related to construction so it's not just planting seeds and harvesting anymore but you can also build equipment and soon, be able to cook food.

Just like in real life, there are 4 seasons in the game.

How To Play

Planting and Harvesting

It's pretty easy. When you have land, you can plant seeds. Sadly, you need to purchase these NFTs to start playing the game.

Prepare your swap.hive or CROP token and head to the dCrops market to buy the NFTs.

You can use the filters to just show the NFTs that you want to purchase.

To start, I usually recommend checking which season is in progress. You will be able to know that when you click Play on the menu or you can head to this link.

Currently it's Summer so if you want to start playing right away, make sure to buy lands and seeds for this season. Usually the seeds for this season are of a higher price than usual so I recommend stacking up seeds for the next season - Autumn. I actually had a spreadsheet monitoring the prices of the seed NFTs but I haven't kept it up to date. I used to use it for comparing prices and when the right time to buy is.

Once you have the land and seed NFTs for the season, you can now start playing the game. Go to Play and click on Farm.

Once there, you can see your land so you just need to choose the seeds that you want to plant. After planting, make sure to click the button at the bottom part of the page to confirm planting, and a confirmation from Hive Keychain will appear. After that, you just need to wait til it's time to harvest.

In my case, I just need to login again to the game when it's ready for harvesting - after 8 days, 10 hours and 32 minutes, a button to harvest will appear so you just need to click on it and wait. That's how easy and not hassle planting in the game is.

You can view the harvested items in the Inventory tab.

Construction

This just recently got opened - I mean not so recently but I just seem to bother it lately. You can build different kinds of equipment that you can use for Crafting, Cooking (I think) and Workshop.

In this case, a Furnace can be built for 5 days only if you have the needed items to construct it. Your Inventory is shown on the right so you can check for missing resources.

Resources can be acquired by buying in the Market or opening a chest. However, opening a chest is by pure luck. Sometimes it doesn't contain the resources that you need.

Acquiring Chests

How to acquire chests? You can get one if you complete the quests for the season so it's very important to click on Get New Quests every time a season starts. You can check your inventory, your cards on hand and see if you can complete the quest. If a task is too hard for you, there's always a Reroll button which will cost you CROP tokens.

I haven't completed mine for this season though. 😅

Right now, there's an event where you can also get Chests in exchange for Candy Cane which I will talk about in the Christmas Event section of this post.

How I'm Earning

Selling Items For Shares

Sell the items in your inventory so you can gain shares for the season.

In my case, I didn't really sell a lot yet so in the Leaderboard on the Dashboard, I'm still at the bottom and will earn a few CROP tokens.

I think a good strategy is to sell in bulk so the bigger the shares, the bigger the CROP tokens. You'll also rank higher on the Leaderboard. I haven't done this though but I heard this tip from someone.

Getting Daily Hive

The more Crop Power you have, the more you'll be getting daily rewards in Hive from dCrops.

Now, there's a new term unknown to you - Crop Power. I don't want to go through the details of explaining what this is because you can read this in the FAQ section of dCrops but the calculation is what's important to know. Honestly, I don't memorize this so you don't need to bother memorizing this.

It seems complicated, right?

My advice to increase your Crop Power is to hoard packs - Alpha or Beta packs. Right now, Alpha packs aren't sold in the Shop anymore, but Beta packs are. You can get the Alpha packs in TribalDex by trading. If it seems too complicated, just get the Beta packs in the Shop.

You can pay in Hive, HBD, CROP, etc. Currently it's on discount so don't miss this chance! The discount is only for a limited time. I'm also planning to get more packs but I still don't have the funds yet. 😅

Now, back to our Crop Power computation, since you need at least 20,000 Crop Power to start earning daily Hive rewards, you need at least 10 packs. Don't open the packs, just keep them or else it's going to be a different computation.

Christmas Event

It's still Christmas in dCrops. Christmas is all about giving so here in dCrops, we can also give gifts to our fellow farmers. And if you're lucky, you can receive gifts too. All you need to do is bribe Santa CROP tokens and you'll be added to the nice list.

I don't know a lot of players from the game but I think I would be overjoyed seeing a player I know or familiar with if my gifts are sent to them. Personally I would want to give gifts to players I know but I realized what if I don't know anyone or someone doesn't know me? Then I won't be receiving gifts or I don't know who to give gifts to. So I think this gift giving being random works. After all, when we give gifts to charities, etc, we usually don't know a lot about them. 😅

Aside from that, there's a raffle too!

I don't have a lot of raffle points right now but my strategy is to send my excess NFTs to dcrops.events account so I could get more raffle points. Sending Legendary NFTs will grant you 4 points but to be honest, I am not so lucky with getting legendary NFTs from opening my Beta packs so I try to keep what I have. Instead, I send common or rare NFTs which will grant me 0.25 and 0.5 points respectively. And yep, I opened a few of my Beta packs and even bought some NFTs in the Market to gain more raffle points. I just hope it's worth it. 🙏

When you have a Candy Canes, you can exchange it in the Event Shop. You can get them by playing the game like planting, harvesting, buying packs, completing quests, etc.

I was trying to accumulate Golden Tickets which can be obtained when you get gifts from other players or when you buy a Present for yourself and open them. I'm not so lucky in this area again. So far, I've only acquired 3 Golden Tickets in total, the 2 I have exchanged for an Alpha Pack. I actually wanted more Alpha packs but I'm stuck with this amount of tickets and now, the packs are all sold out!

As I have mentioned earlier, you can get a Reward Chest from this Event Shop. Just be ready to exchange your Candy Canes for it and you can open them.

Right now, I'm eyeing for the Gingerbread Cookie but it seems impossible with my current Golden Tickets. Nevertheless, I'll continue to spend my Candy Canes to get a Present for myself or for others. I have no strategy here, it all just depends on my mood if I'm being selfish or being nice. 😂 Maybe next time, I'll try to get Reward Chest once I reach 250 Candy Canes.

Conclusion

There are still so many things you can do in dCrops aside from the things I have mentioned. It's just up to you to figure them out so you'll also be thrilled! And there are more updates going to be released in the future so it's going to be more and more exciting!

Honestly, this is the only game I'm actually playing in Hive. I have assets for other games but this is the only game I spend my time to. Maybe because I wanted to own a farm in real life so I'm simulating right now in the virtual world..? Who knows.

But all I can tell you is the game is pretty simple. Just start with the basics - Planting and Harvesting, and you're good to go. Then try to increase your Crop Power so you can earn Hive rewards daily.

You don't need to bother with the computations if you don't care about numbers at all. I mean, of course, you need to make sure you're not at a loss. But tbh, I haven't computed my gains yet. I just spend whenever I have extra. 😅 Don't be like me. Please compute if this is worth your time.

But this game is worth my time.

If you are still not convinced about playing the game, I'm telling you now that you should be. 😂 You don't really need to open the game every minute, you just need to wait. It's not so complicated. If you have played FarmVille or Farm Town or whatever farming games there were when Facebook started, it's just like this - but here, you'll earn. Plus, the NFTs are pretty cool! Don't you think so?! And and and the UI UX of the game is also getting better and better as time goes by. And @scriptkittie, the dev, is so accommodating and considerate and will hear your feedback and opinions of the game.
