I reckon I managed just fine without a mobile for most of my life so I can carry on doing without. But as you say, they're becoming almost essential for survival.

Good for you. Privacy is wonderful. A good companion to to this way of life is to use cash as well.

I always use cash, though my favourite coffee shop recently went card only, so I'm conflicted:)
A friend ran into that and here's what he did. He ordered they made his coffee and he brought out his cash--they said they don't accept it anymore. So he shrugged and walked away and sat with a friend he was meeting there. Later the barista brought over his coffee and gave it to him for free.
