I like to make things myself and reuse different materials ♻️. Making jewelry is one of my passions. In the following, you will get an overview of how I make a butterfly brooch from zipper and felt scraps to wear on a sweater or hat. you can also make a Dagaonfly brooch from a butterfly in the same way. You can always use the chicken scraps you have at home to make the brooch, it doesn't have to be felt. Any other sparkly old blouse that is no longer suitable for wearing is also suitable. Be creative and use the materials available around you. Don't be afraid to experiment with different materials. You can use chicken scraps, old blouses or other materials you have at home.
The main thing is to be creative and enjoy the process!
Tutorial on how to make a butterfly/dragonfly brooch
Materials:
- Zipper 42-45 cm
- Felt black 15 x 12 cm/ colored small pce.
- Brooch pin
- Pearls
Tools:
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Needle and thread
- Cheerful mood and getting on with it.
Work process:
Cut off the tail of the zipper and slide the sole off the zipper so two halves of the lock remain. Then take one side of the fabric and cut off the material near the teeth(You can make two brooches from one zipper).
Turn the end of the zipper (where there is no tail) and roll a few circles. Put glue on the back side and stick it to the black felt (You can first draw the shape of the brooch on the material either with chalk or soap). You can find file original size other PDF file Print and cut.
Then put the big wings in place and glue it onto the felt. Then set the small wings in place and stick them on the felt, (caution glue can be hot, be careful).
Fill the wings with hot glue from the inside, this way the brooch will get strength.
Cut out wing shapes from coloured felt, put hot glue inside the wing and stick the coloured felt inside the wings. Use the tip of the scissors to set the felt in place because the glue is hot. When hot glue goes where it wasn't needed. Let it dry and remove with a needle.
Turn the back of the butterfly and stick a brooch pin there. You can also sew it with thread and needle.
Finally, glue or sew the pearls. Use your creativity.
A few more of my creations.
Happy brooch making, enjoy your handiwork.
*NB! If you don't have felt, you can also use other materials, such as old clothes, jeans, etc. buttons instead of pearls.
It looks unique and beautiful, I've never seen anything like it before, thanks for sharing the creating process with us. It will also look good as an hair pin.
I really liked it, it's a great idea to decorate, I had seen many garments with zippers, but not something this cute, I think I'll be making several like this thanks for sharing it with us.
This is beautiful and creative. I can remember making simpler ones in the past. Thanks for sharing this creative process.
These look awesome, well done!
