Making a crochet purse is one of the things I've been wanting to do since I started knitting, but I'm intimidated by overly ambitious projects. I like to play it safe in most cases, but I also like to learn and I approach challenges with caution as I can get discouraged quickly. However, I can also bounce back quickly if it is something I really enjoy and this is the case with crochet.

Me gusta irme por lo seguro en la mayoría de los casos, pero también me gusta aprender y los retos los enfrento con cautela ya que puedo desanimarme con rapidez. Sin embargo, también puedo recuperarme rápido si es algo que realmente me gusta y este es el caso del crochet.

I didn't know how to start. And believe me, I made four attempts to start. At first I wanted to do the drop stitch which is beautiful, but I had two obstacles that made me give up on this weaving. First, as I progressed the knitting became very stiff and second, as I had started with an oval as a base I could not get symmetry between the number of diamonds that were formed on the right and on the left. I gave up and opted to apply the same technique I used in the belt and another way to assemble the clutch. The technique is very easy to execute and there are only two basic stitches that are repeated throughout the knitting, you just have to be patient, if you are like me that as soon as I start knitting I want to see the progress as soon as possible, I run out of yarn in the blink of an eye and I'm left wanting to continue knitting. Let's go with the step by step:

No sabía cómo empezar. Y créanme, hice cuatro intentos de inicio. En un principio quería hacer el punto gota que es precioso, pero tuve dos obstáculos que me hicieron desistir de este tejido. El primero, a medida que avanzaba el tejido se me hacía muy rígido y segundo lugar, como había empezado realizando un óvalo como base no conseguía simetría entre el número de rombos que se formaban a la derecha y el de la izquierda. Me rendí y opté por aplicar la misma técnica que utilicé en el cinturón y otra forma para armar el clutch. La técnica es muy fácil de ejecutar y son solo dos puntos básicos que se repiten a lo largo de todo el tejido, solo hay que tener paciencia, si es que son como yo que apenas empiezo a realizar un tejido quiero ver el avance lo más pronto posible, me acabo el hilo en un parpadeo y me quedo con ganas de seguir tejiendo. Vamos con el paso a paso:

First we knit 61 chain stitches, which will be the base on which we will knit the entire fabric. When we reach the desired number of stitches we knit two additional chain stitches and in the third stitch counting backwards we introduce the needle and knit 1 medium high stitch and close it, in sequence we knit 1 slipped stitch. We advance the whole length of the chain alternating 1 stockinette stitch and 1 slip stitch.

Primero realizamos 61 puntos cadena que será la base sobre la cual realizaremos todo el tejido. Al llegar al número de puntos deseados tejemos dos puntos cadena adicionales y en el tercer punto contando hacia atrás introducimos la aguja y realizamos 1 punto medio alto y lo cerramos, en secuencia realizamos 1 punto deslizado. Avanzamos a todo lo largo de la cadena intercalando 1 punto medio alto y 1 punto deslizado.

Each row must begin and end in 1 stockinette stitch and never in slip stitch. When we reach the end of the chain we turn the fabric, we knit 1 additional chain stitch and we slip the needle in the same stitch where we are and there we knit 1 medium low stitch. In the next stitch we knit 1 slip stitch and go to the end of the chain. In this way we knit in a repetitive way until we reach the desired height of the fabric to assemble the clutch. To make it more attractive, we randomly intersperse the green macramé so that our clutch will have stripes of another color.

Cada vuelta debe comenzar y terminar en 1 punto medio alto y jamás en punto deslizado. Al llegar al final de la cadena damos vuelta al tejido, tejemos 1 punto cadena adicional y deslizamos la aguja en el mismo punto dónde estamos y allí realizamos 1 punto medio bajo. En el siguiente realizamos 1 punto deslizado y avanzamos hasta el final del tejido. De esta manera vamos tejiendo de manera repetitiva hasta alcanzar la altura del tejido deseado para armar el clutch. Para darle mayor atractivo intercalamos de manera aleatoria el macramé de color verde para que nuestro clutch quede con franjas de otro color.

Once we have the necessary height to make both sides of the clutch plus the top, we cut the thread and hide the excess thread at each color change. Remember not to cut the thread flush with the fabric because it can unravel. This has already happened to me. These are things you learn along the way.

Una vez que tenemos la altura necesaria para hacer ambas caras del clutch más la tapa cortamos la hebra y ocultamos el excedente de hilo en cada cambio de color. Recordemos no cortar el hilo al ras del tejido porque se puede destejer. Ya me ha pasado. Son cosas que se van aprendiendo en el camino.

With a wool sewing needle, we assemble the clutch by folding it in three parts. The first two give origin to the cavity of the clutch and the third is for the cover, this last part is narrower. With the same needle and wool we sew a button that matches the design, I chose a square wooden one and we weave a chain that we use to close with the button. We weave this chain directly over the edge of the lid matching the button.

Con una aguja para coser lana armamos el clutch doblando en tres parte. Las dos primeras dan origen a la cavidad del clutch y la tercera es para la tapa, ésta última parte en mas angosta. Con la misma aguja y lana cosemos un boton que haga juego con el diseño, elegí uno de madera cuadrado y tejemos una cadena que nos sirva para cerrar con el botón. Esta cadena la tejemos directamente sobre al borde de la tapa haciendo coincidir con el botón.

We can use some decorative element to complement the clutch. In this case we made a tassel with green macramé and some beads, beads and ochre-colored daisy charms. My clutch is ready. The process of elaboration is simple, economical because I only spent 120 grams of wool approximately, and the result is very nice so there are no excuses not to try it. I hope you like it. Bye Bye.

Podemos usar algún elemento decorativo para complementar el clutch. En este caso realizamos una borla con macramé verde y algunos canutillos, mostacillas y dijes de margarita color ocre. Ya tengo listo mi clutch. El proceso de elaboración es simple, económico porque solo gaste 120 gramos de lana aproximadamente, y el resultado es muy lindo así que no hay excusas para no intentarlo.
