Everyone's Favourite Christmas Film

Yippee Ki yay Motherfucker. We all remember good ol' Die Hard. Do you?

It's weird how the generations have changed over time. When I was young, and I was 8 years old when this came out, and yes, crazily, I was allowed to watch it, as were my friends. I'm Generation X if any of you are wondering. We were handed swords and guns to play with when we were children, oh! And don't forget the bows and arrows.

We just loved carnage and destroying stuff.

And now the latest generations, like Z for example, we have wrapped up in cotton wool. I'd never let my son watch this -- mostly because I'd rather he was an appropriate age to watch it. I prefer him to have a childhood where I didn't. I grew up watching Steven Segal shoot big holes in people's heads, whereas my son has grown up with the likes of The Night Garden and Frozen. It's quite a big difference.

And you can tell by the movies of our time. Like for example if you watch this it's really quite violent, gritty and graphic; much different to the polished pretend gritty films we have these days which aren't really. I watched The Terminator a few months back and was shocked at how damn violent it was; nothing in this day and age compares, well, not that I can think of - something like that would never be allowed to air today.

And yet here we have Die Hard, one of the best Christmas Movies of our time. John McClane, a New York policeman finds himself wrapped up in a hostage situation where robbers want to steal millions of dollars from the vault at his wife's place of work.

Luckily (or unluckily) however you choose to view it - John finds himself unwittingly trapped in a building that's been fully locked down and no-one knows it's being robbed as he is there to visit his wife for Christmas. Good ol' John tries to alert the authorities in the area but no-one believes him because he's not a registered cop of that area!

But, as luck would have it -- the local police department sent out a lone cop to investigate the area after John makes his case, and after making a few dead bodies of some nasty bad guys, John throws a dead body off the top of the building straight into the Police Car of the guy sent to scout out the area.

And then the fun begins.

Not to spoil it all for you but this is one of the best films of its time. You can always tell when a film was good because there's always about fifty sequels to follow and a remake to boot. This film hasn't had a remake yet, but here's betting they will! Especially with the lack of imagination Hollywood writers suffer from these days!

I would recommend you give it a watch if you haven't. I may even be up for a rewatch because it's been so long since I gave this one another once over!
