Tracing its origins back to that misty 12th century, in which, in the middle of that historical period, known as the Reconquest and which, in fact, was also the predecessor of the bloody Crusades that took place in the Holy Land, the small town de Andrade - its name seems to suggest that it bears the surname of one of the great Galician lords of the time, such as Count Fernán Pérez de Andrade, popularly known by the nickname of 'O Boo', 'El Bueno'- the Romanesque church, dedicated to the popular figure of San Martiño, still continues to offer spiritual relief to the small surrounding communities, serving the purposes for which it was created in its long-lived origins.
Its characteristics, regardless of the aesthetics offered by a recently remodeled and brand-new roof, responds to the general type of Romanesque churches of the time, with its cross-shaped plan, where the transepts would respond to the traditional chapels of the Epistle and of the Gospel, its apse or head, unequivocally semicircular in shape and its general orientation towards the East, towards sunrise and by default, looking in the direction of the reference of references, which, at the time, constituted the Holy City par excellence : Jerusalem.
Remontándose sus orígenes a aquel brumoso siglo XII, en el que, en mitad de ese periodo histórico, conocido como la Reconquista y que, de hecho, fue el antecesor, también, de las sangrientas Cruzadas que se desarrollaron en Tierra Santa, la pequeña población de Andrade - su nombre parece sugerir que lleva el apellido de uno de los grandes señores gallegos de la época, como fue el conde Fernán Pérez de Andrade, conocido, popularmente, con el sobrenombre de ‘O Boo’, ‘El Bueno’- la iglesia románica, dedicada a la popular figura de San Martiño, todavía continúa ofreciendo alivio espiritual a las pequeñas comunidades de alrededor, sirviendo a los propósitos por los que fue creada en sus longevos orígenes.
Sus características, independientemente de la estética ofrecida por un tejaroz recientemente remodelado y de novísimo aspecto, responde al tipo generalizado de las iglesias románicas de la época, con su planta en forma de cruz, donde los transeptos responderían a las tradicionales capillas de la Epístola y del Evangelio, su ábside o cabecera, de inequívoca forma semicircular y su generalizada orientación hacia el Este, hacia la salida del sol y por defecto, mirando en dirección a la referencia de referencias, que, en la época, constituía la Ciudad Santa por antonomasia: Jerusalén.
