Merry Christmas, Hive!

Another Year Gone By

It's hard to believe that soon I will have been doing the Hive thing for nearly 7 years, but here we are! Another Christmas and 2024 right around the corner. @afturner and I decided to skip giving each other presents this year and focus on @little-ricky. I was perfectly fine with that, since all he really wants are dinosaur and vehicle related toys at this point.

Yet more diggers to add to the collection

It has been a lot more fun this year watching Ricky open presents. At this age, you really see them growing and changing quite rapidly. Last year he struggled a bit opening his presents as the paper was a bit difficult for him to rip. This year, he made short work of it! We decided to pace things a bit by giving him presents throughout the day so that they all don't just pile up on the floor. We're going to need to get rid of some of the old toys because it is starting to get a bit ridiculous in here.

We did get some 'early' Christmas Presents

Technically, we didn't buy each other presents, but we did get several things that we need to grow our business. One was the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k Pro. I actually purchased this model a bit on accident thinking it was the new full frame cinema camera just with an EF mount. By the time I realized my mistake, it was already too late since I have already removed it from the packaging and spent a lot of time learning how it works.

I am fine with that in the end because it will work perfectly for the projects that I'll be using it for. Things are moving along a bit slowly on the kids show that we are working on because of other work commitments but I am convinced we'll cover some ground in 2024.

We found this giant plush dino at Ross. We watched them sell out of these

Apart from the camera, cage and some accessories, we also both got the Whoop fitness device. This device is really great compared to my old Fitbit. It give you a lot of cool metrics and has a coaching function which helps you figure out what you need to do to improve your health and fitness. I have already been improving some things like my heart rate variability. Apparently one thing I was really lacking was proper hydration. Wow, does that make a difference that you can see in the data!

Keeping Things Simple

I am taking a break here while writing this between little Ricky opening more presents and a couple of friends coming to visit for dinner. Over the past few years I have been appreciating keeping things slow and easy around the holidays. It is supposed to be a time to spend with your family and be in good spirits but all too often it's a time of stress and anxiety. The commercial aspect and expectations can become a bit overwhelming.

I hope everyone who celebrates this holiday is having a wonderful day with their family and friends. Merry Christmas, everyone!

I would really appreciate your support!

There is nothing more satisfying than spending time with the family.

Have a fantastic day.

Thanks my friend!

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Ricky got a big dyno doll. : )
Hope you will be filled with Christmas blessing.

Thanks! @little-ricky was very happy with his toys! Especially his Buzz Lightyear that he got after this post was made.

That must be pretty nice. Our holiday is so packed with running here and there, it can get a bit crazy sometimes. We have one more stop we need to make tomorrow and then we are finished for the season. That is cool about the fitness tracker. I am going to have to check that out. My wife currently has a Fitbit, but it's old and she complains about it more than she enjoys it. We rarely get presents for each other, but we have talked about getting a treadmill this year, so I will probably wait for the New Years Resolution sales to start and then pick on up.

I used the Fitbit for several years but honestly it really pissed me off for several reasons. I had the Fitbit Charge 3, which apparently has a screen that just fails after about 12 months and goes completely dark. The first one went dark about a week before the warranty ended, so they sent me a new one to replace it. This one worked for just over 12 more months and its screen went dead as well.

I continued using it just for the sleep data, but that was wildly inaccurate as well. It did manage to known when I fell asleep and woke up (except it thought I was asleep when meditating) but it was far under-estimating my deep and REM sleep. I was freaking out a little. It also thought I was getting sleep apnea. Just so many problems. This one is way more accurate! It does cost a monthly fee though.

we have talked about getting a treadmill this year

We have a couple of Spin bikes in the garage that we never seem to get around to using. We got some clip on pedals and shoes for it as well which I finally installed. I also made sure the garage was clean and clear so we have no excuses now! I have GOT to get in shape. At our age we can't neglect it or will suffer a lot later.

I was looking at the Whoop after you wrote your post and I think the price is going to be a bit steep for us to go that direction. I had a friend that had a heart attack when he was 47 years old. It was at that point I realized I needed to start getting in shape and I have been doing my best to work out at least four days a week for the past two or three years.

It is way too expensive. I agree. We ended up buying a several year up front payment during a big sale. But it is still a bit out of control. I don't blame you for not wanting to pay that!

I had a friend that had a heart attack when he was 47 years old

Yeah, it freaks me out a bit too. Seeing people around your age getting heart attacks can certainly be a motivating factor to get in shape.

Oddly enough, if I were to ever upgrade from my current Fitbit, I have been looking at the Garmin fitness trackers. Those are a whole different level of expensive! Maybe after the next bull run....

What beautiful empathy! Merry Christmas!

Thanks @andr3a1sm! Merry Christmas to you as well.

Merry Christmas! Thanks, I hope you are having a great holiday as well.

What a cute kid you have! Makes me miss the good old days! I'm glad you had a nice Christmas and your son looks like he's really happy with his new stuff. I really miss having a kid that age!

Sounds like you did OK with that camera, and I haven't heard of Whoop. Do the added metrics make it worthwhile?

Time just keeps flying on by, I don't know what happened to this year. It just vanished...

Thanks, I am enjoying having the little guy but he really is changing fast. I can see that he won't be this way for very long.

I don't know what happened to this year.

You and me both... This was the fastest year I have ever experienced. I can see that it will only get faster from here! It needs to slow down a bit!

Do the added metrics make it worthwhile?

That is a tough question to answer. It is definitely overpriced, but it has really been helping me to narrow down some health issues and sort them out. I have been improving my sleep and drinking enough water which has been dramatically improving my HRV (Heart Rate Variability) which is a great indicator of overall health. But I do think that the membership fee needs to come down a bit before I can generally recommend it.

I'm hoping next year won't fly by so fast, we're not getting any younger! Studies have shown that a lower heart rate does increase life expectancy, so hydration is definitely key there!

Merry Christmas man !
