#BeerSaturday 319 - Disasters and Imaginary Friends

zHops1.jpg

Seems every week I am headed somewhere and this time it is on a plane but #beersaturday comes first! Beer blogging comes naturally to me due to years spent brewing for myself and restaurants, working with breweries on their technology & marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist doing my best to consume, report and even brew to do that title justice.

This week, I am enjoying some Indian food and dabbling in Double IPAs

Pint o' the Week

The Pint of the Week is a special one. A beverage at a brewery taproom, a pint in a pub, or a social beer that highlights the week. As mentioned previously, I have the privilege of working with some pretty fancy restaurants in town and they somehow found out I like beer! This week's pint of the week is this cucumber martini. Just kidding.

It is actually a nice draft from https://rajastratford.ca We work very well together because the world needs to know how great this place is via our social media service, they serve the best damn Lamb Dansak this side of Kingston (where I discovered Indian Food), and they know I love a good beer when I visit. This is a simple clear Canadian lager that generally bores me but was perfect for the end of a long work day.

Nautical Disaster, again?

I have only had a few beers from Lake of the Woods Brewing Company https://www.lowbrewco.com/ but this one seemed familiar. I dismissed the notion and chalked it up to being a sailboat racer with an afinity to anchors.....or something like that. Plus it was a double IPA that I was not familiar with which is my jam. I dug back in the endless archive and found the source of the familiarity. I have had this one before! But it was just a single IPA instead of a redesigned double. It was long enough ago that the walls in my professional #beerologist photo studio were a different colour. This should be good! One of the neat things about Nautical Disaster Double IPA https://www.lowbrewco.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Nautical-Disaster-Sales-Sheet-MB.pdf is that they even have a downloadable PDF in case you really want to learn what is going on. The other thing is that the single IPA version is 6.4% ABV while the double is only 7.0% They must have controlled the sugar in the latter stages of brewing to double the hopping process but not come in over 8% ABV in the process. An eclectic selection of hops with Cascade, Chinook, Citra, Nugget made for quite the body and I will have this beer again if available.

Land of Imaginary Friends!

The title of this one reminds me of being on #Hive, except it is the land of friends you have not met in person yet. I am such a fanboi of Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery https://www.flyingmonkeys.ca/ beer that it doesn't matter how ridiculous the branding or far out the beer concept is, I generally snap it up if it has the words Pale Ale on it. For those just hearing about Flying Monkeys now, it is a neat brewery in a strange little town jammed right between the big city and cottage country. As harsh as it is that I think it has the worst of both of those, it does have one of the neatest breweries around. A sticky mango double IPA is pretty ridiculous and Land of Imaginary Friends https://www.flyingmonkeys.ca/beers/islandofimaginaryfriendsstickymangodipa1 really leans onto it. 8.2% ABV and popping with real mango puree and even coconut which I am not much of a fan of. There is just so much of everything in this foamy aperitif that it didn't matter. Pretty sure I wouldn't have more than 1 in a session but another bold, over the top beer by Flying Monkeys which you should visit in person if you have the chance. When Hive hits $10, I will take anyone who wants to go.

Which one for you? The Cucumber Martini?

Sort:

They look quite provocative for a hot day or just to cool off on a weekend.

I can see how much you love Beer
That's cool
If I may ask, is it true that Beer consists of so much sugar?

Dude, I don't know how you do it, but you always share interesting beers with us XD The names of these ones were pretty funny. If you drink 10 beers you can really make imaginary friends, it's a hard challenge 😂😂

Nautical Disaster!

Wao all these drinks looks so tasty. Cheer's.

Thanks, will do:)
