What Is Community? My Opinion About Some Communities On Steemit.

in #blog5 years ago

Hello All!
I just wanted to share some thoughts today and my feelings on this thing called community. Many might consider this a rant or a bitch session, so be it, I needed to get it off of my chest. So here it is!

The dictionary defines a community,

  1. As a group of people that shares the same interest or the same ideas.

  2. A group of people that supports and helps one another and depends on one another.

  3. A group of people that shares resources with one another when they are needing something.

  4. A group of people that cares about others in the community.

So do I see this in the communities on Steemit, not in all of them? Some of the communities were started out as a way for the person or persons that started them to feel like they were somebody and wanted to push their own agenda. Not really for the good of others but themselves. They try to make it look like a community but it is more about themselves than others.

I see some communities that are really making it about everyone in the community or at least trying to, as people participate in the community or help support the community. Some community leaders choose favorites and just deal with them and speak to others in the community to keep up the appearance of not doing so. Many community leaders and the people of the community simply ignore someone in the community asking for help or if they are not asking, someone else is asking for them.

I guess the thing is that many communities on Steemit are not what they seem to be, not communities by definition but more like an individualist or an individual thing going on. There is a lot of inequality going on in the communities on Steemit.

I was told that there are many great communities on Steemit and I see a few that are and I will be trying to get into those communities but there are the communities that are as described as above and I have left those communities or will not join those communities or support those communities.

I guess you have to look at the founders of those communities attitude and how they act to really see what they are starting the community for. As many are all about making themselves look good and saying see what I can do. then it is about an individual and not a community. Building the community for themselves and not really about the members of the community.

I hope many of you that are in the communities will look at the founders and see through them and look at what they are really about and call them out when you see the individualism coming through and stopping being a part of that and join the communities that are about the group of people and not about a person. True leaders want passionate people in their communities, not sheep blindly following them. I hope everyone has a great day and will think about this for themselves and look hard at what the communities on Steemit are really about and find the ones that are true communities and support each other not just the leader or founders of the community.
